Teslas seem so optimized for low aero drag that I’ve noticed crosswinds really make a difference in noise level. My Model Y was noisier when the windshield wiper was near the top of stroke and shed turbulence over the driver’s head.

Hello all. I just received the OEM cross bars. Any idea why the mounting options as noted are not advised or contradicted?

Installed mine.
I have noticed losing range on every drive so far. Typically I am in the green with some touches of orange. Now it’s all orange below the curve.
Definitely adding parasitic drag to the truck.

Yeah this, literally. I only noticed noise because of the wind and I literally took out crosswind because I thought I was being overly specific but your experience confirms mine. Crosswind makes a lot of noise (that’s relative of course) without that they’re super quiet.

I have an offered any comments on range because unless you drive like a maniac, my experience won’t be instructive.

My average efficiency over 4k miles is 474 Wh/mi and a lot of you folks are talking about 350 or less. I’m never gonna see those numbers! I don’t buy fast cars to drive them slow.

Load/weight distribution.
Weight is a given known max. The question is why is the distribution over a larger span contra indicated? Or is it due to possible Torque issues fore to aft etc? I am curious as to the actual structural reason behind the limited mounting suggested versions.

I did mine today and didn’t notice any noise on the highway. I didn’t check range. Just assumed it was colder temps. Only noise is the normal whistle around 55mph.

Got my two sets installed today! They were originally scheduled for delivery on Thursday, but due to local weather and interstate closures, there was a slight delay until today. The installation was super easy, and I love how effortlessly they attach and detach. Plus, they'll be a breeze to store away when I don’t want them on my truck. Couldn't be happier!

So my question with these is why didn’t they add some loop points for tie downs or rope or what ever? How are you spose to tie things down properly if you ever use them for other then looks ?
I’ve tied a lot of things onto crossbars, ever since I got my first vehicle with them, 54 years ago.

I tie things down with rope, using knots I learned when I was a Cub Scout.

If you’re too old to be a Cub Scout just get yourself some rope, study this, and you’ll be ready to tie things down properly, too! :LOL:https://www.cubsource.org/Step_By_Step_Basic_Knots.pdf

Hey guys!

Just installed mine! I think they look gorgeous!

Excited to test it out this winter season. Is there a specific ski rack that's compatible with the bars?

I don’t know what it could be other than torque. I plan to use mine at a further separation but with a lower weight limit.

I understand and would have to agree. A 17 foot kayak would be more stable if the bars were a bit more apart than what is advocated. I have no issue with keeping at what is recommended, yet knowledge of “Why” would benefit all.
Cheers!

Anyone know of a good option for a spare tire mount for these?

I would think they are not suggesting it because any flex with something heavy could possibly break the top window. I would just say do it at your own risk.
