Hello,

I'm about to place an order for a Cybertruck, but I want to have it wrapped. I've done some cursory research, and it seems like if I want a color wrap, there are two methods:
1. Three-layer application: color vinyl wrap + transparent PPF wrap + ceramic coating
2. Two-layer application: color PPF wrap + ceramic coating

Method #2 is a fairly recent offering for wrapping cars, as color PPFs didn't use to exist, but now there are several companies that manufacture color PPFs. I've contacted a Tesla-certified shop in town, who told me they have wrapped about 200 Cybertrucks by now. They charge $1,000 more for method #2 compared to method #1. Additionally, they don't provide lifetime warranty on method #2, whereas lifetime warranty for method #1 is included in the price. This shop quoted me $7,000 for method #1 and $8,000 for method #2 to wrap a Cybertruck.

Then, I contacted another shop in town, asked them if they could do method #2, and specifically asked them about FlexiShield Assassin Red color PPF with ceramic coating on top. They quoted me $6,000 for the PPF and $500 for the ceramic coating, totaling $6,500 to wrap a Cybertruck, using method #2. This is $1,500 less than the first shop quoted. The FlexiShield color PPF is applied onto a dry surface vs other manufacturers' color PPFs that are applied onto a wet surface.

Now come my questions.
1. What's the consensus here on wrapping a Cybertruck: method #1 or #2?
2. Is ceramic coating recommended for both #1 and #2?
3. Has anyone had his/her Cybertruck wrapped in FlexiShield PPF? If so, is this a quality product? I've read both very positive and very negative opinions on FlexiShield PPF.
4. Is the price I'm being quoted ($6,500 for FlexiShield + ceramic coating) too high a price? I feel that this price is twice as high as it should be, but this opinion is not based on anything other than my gut feeling. I don't know what the cost of the materials is.
5. Is there any value at all in a lifetime warranty on a wrap? When I questioned the first shop about what their lifetime warranty covered, they told me they didn't cover vandalism, such as someone keying the wrap, and neither did they cover things like someone opening a door and hitting the side of the Cybertruck (intentionally or not). But they did tell me if something like that were to happen, they would replace the wrapping on the affected panel at cost (parts + labor), which they told me would be about $300 - $400 per panel. Second shop, which gave me the $6500 quote, also told me that they would replace an affected panel at cost, but they didn't mention anything about lifetime warranty. So, what's the value of the lifetime warranty on method #1 , and why exactly would I want to have it?

Thank you.

Color PPF is a better option, if you choose good quality PPF like ours, which is color infused. Most color PPF is laminated. Doing vinyl and then PPF on top of it is essentially like laminated PPF with double the labor effort and still having the risk of delamination.
With that said $6000 is a rip off. We do this for $3400 (with install at TWRAPS HQ) and right now it's even cheaper for Black Friday, and we offer next day pickup. $1700 for the DIY option which I show how to do yourself in a day:

Being in ATL, I would have thought the shop that has done 200 CTs is @T Sportline, but that cost doesn't align with my understanding. If you haven't, I would contact them. I bought their colored PPF DIY and did it myself. And did the PPF ceramic coating too. Materials were 1800 or so.

I saw your pricing, and it looks good. Do you have an installer in Metro Atlanta?

Not yet unfortunately. Hopefully next year we expand, but let's see.

No, it’s not T Sportline. Actually, I test drove a Cybertruck again today, and I asked the Tesla advisor whom they recommend for wrapping a CyberTruck. I was given the name of the installer I mentioned in my original post, who quoted $7,000 for Method #1.so, they are legit, and Tesla recommends them, but the installer doesn’t recommend Method #2, and they charge $7,000 for Method #1. I will call T Sportline now.

I did mine using PurePPF, I want to say the warranty is either 5 or 7 years, but it looks really good and they have a huge variety of color options. If you go to their website they will list their dealers, I do know T-Sportline in ATL does PurePPF though.

Unfortunately, I can’t use your PPF, as I have no option to have it installed in Metro Atlanta. It would be great if you partnered with a local installer or installers (perhaps smaller detailing shops) to install your self-install PPF package.

I did option #2, very pleased, but cannot speak intelligently about #1

2. Is ceramic coating recommended for both #1 and #2?
Yes

Yes, this is my experience as well. My installer (whom I have become friends with) mentions that most PPF companies require a minimum charge for installation. He is in a very competitive area and says some other installers undercut him by charging less than the company requires, but the companies don't do anything about it. That may be why there is a small price difference. I had PurePPF installed.

5. Is there any value at all in a lifetime warranty on a wrap?
I would be more concerned about the installer/shop. If the shop is reputable and wants to KEEP their reputation, they will do whatever to make you happy. My last car was wrapped and when some dude sideswiped me (nothing too major), it left a smudge/divot in my passenger side. I took it to him to give me an estimate for replacing it so I could give it to the insurance company. He simply ran inside, got a heat gun and a plastic tool and voila, it was repaired. With my CT install, one of his installers accidentally bent a piece of trim. He didn't rest until he was able to replace it (drove 2 hours to my house to replace it). The reputable shops want you to be happy, they don't just want your money.

Good luck - can't wait to see it - I almost wrapped mine in red as well.

Do you recommend ceramic coating over your color PPF?.

What does ceramic coating add to the longevity or look of the color PPF?

How much do you charge to apply ceramic coating on top of you color PPF? A assume your $3,000 price doesn’t include ceramic coating.

Thank you.

Honestly I have 0 experience with ceramic coating. I know that in theory it makes the surface more hydrophobic and chemically resistant. Our PPF is NOT hydrophobic yet (might introduce such a line later on) but it will resist the chemicals you will usually face from the elements. So my opinion (not expert on this subject though!) is that it doesn't hurt to have ceramic, adds an extra layer of protection towards the longevity of the wrap, then again with average car ownership being about 5-6 years, our warranty being 5 years, I'd say that it's not absolutely necessary either. We don't apply ceramic though (not yet at least).

Hi OP,

Method 1 is a lot of labor and time. I would only recommend it if you absolutely have to have the color vinyl you have chosen. Otherwise, go with PPF.

PPF + ceramic coating is something we do all the time here. The ceramic isn't necessary, but it goes a long way towards providing extra protection for the PPF wrap, and makes washing a bit easier.

I don't know who the other shop is that claims to have done 200+ CT wraps, but no one in Atlanta has done more than we have. Much like Twraps, we own our own film, and because of that we can offer the best pricing on PPF wraps of any shop here. We do offer other brands--such as Inozetek and Pure PPF, but our Tmaxx PPF wrap is only $3550 right now, and I've already found a color that matches FlexiShield's Assassin Red color. Our warranty is 7 years on the wrap.

We are also not a one day in-and-out shop. Our process is much more meticulous than shops that claim to get you out the same day, and we spend several days with the truck ensuring that it's right before you take it home.

Come and see me and I'll show you the swatch and tell you more about our process. We're here all day today until 5:30pm and I'll be in again tomorrow morning at 7:30am.

Call me at 678-470-3484
