Hello,
I'm about to place an order for a Cybertruck, but I want to have it wrapped. I've done some cursory research, and it seems like if I want a color wrap, there are two methods:
1. Three-layer application: color vinyl wrap + transparent PPF wrap + ceramic coating
2. Two-layer application: color PPF wrap + ceramic coating
Method #2 is a fairly recent offering for wrapping cars, as color PPFs didn't use to exist, but now there are several companies that manufacture color PPFs. I've contacted a Tesla-certified shop in town, who told me they have wrapped about 200 Cybertrucks by now. They charge $1,000 more for method #2 compared to method #1. Additionally, they don't provide lifetime warranty on method #2, whereas lifetime warranty for method #1 is included in the price. This shop quoted me $7,000 for method #1 and $8,000 for method #2 to wrap a Cybertruck.
Then, I contacted another shop in town, asked them if they could do method #2, and specifically asked them about FlexiShield Assassin Red color PPF with ceramic coating on top. They quoted me $6,000 for the PPF and $500 for the ceramic coating, totaling $6,500 to wrap a Cybertruck, using method #2. This is $1,500 less than the first shop quoted. The FlexiShield color PPF is applied onto a dry surface vs other manufacturers' color PPFs that are applied onto a wet surface.
Now come my questions.
1. What's the consensus here on wrapping a Cybertruck: method #1 or #2?
2. Is ceramic coating recommended for both #1 and #2?
3. Has anyone had his/her Cybertruck wrapped in FlexiShield PPF? If so, is this a quality product? I've read both very positive and very negative opinions on FlexiShield PPF.
4. Is the price I'm being quoted ($6,500 for FlexiShield + ceramic coating) too high a price? I feel that this price is twice as high as it should be, but this opinion is not based on anything other than my gut feeling. I don't know what the cost of the materials is.
5. Is there any value at all in a lifetime warranty on a wrap? When I questioned the first shop about what their lifetime warranty covered, they told me they didn't cover vandalism, such as someone keying the wrap, and neither did they cover things like someone opening a door and hitting the side of the Cybertruck (intentionally or not). But they did tell me if something like that were to happen, they would replace the wrapping on the affected panel at cost (parts + labor), which they told me would be about $300 - $400 per panel. Second shop, which gave me the $6500 quote, also told me that they would replace an affected panel at cost, but they didn't mention anything about lifetime warranty. So, what's the value of the lifetime warranty on method #1 , and why exactly would I want to have it?
Thank you.
