First FSD Strikeout - May not like my reading glasses on the end of my nose, maybe thinks I’m looking down?

Received my first strikeout today. Got a warning to watch the road when I was grabbing something from the passenger side, so I’m guilty but I looked forward and then in quick succession a few more warnings, I don’t recall how many, and then a strikeout and no more FSD until I reach my destination when the attached message appeared saying I have four more chances. I’m wondering if it has trouble determining where I’m looking when I wear my reading glasses on the end of my nose… maybe it thinks I’m looking down, seems overly sensitive.

Not quite; you answered your own question:

"I was grabbing something from the passenger side"

Their attention monitoring algorithm uses a lot of factors to include (but not limited to) eye direction, head direction and inclination, body position and posture, breathing, and much more.

It's sensitive enough to know if your eyes, are looking at the media sections of the nav screen as well. So when it can't see your eyes directly, it puts more weight on head movement and body position. The system can detect medical emergencies as well, but not all of the corrective actions are completely certified yet.

Driving with sunglasses or corrective lenses is permitted, but it adds more weight to the other factors to compensate.

I had the same thing happen. After about 4-5 days the screen said something like FSD Strikeout forgiven. They should review it and will likely forgive the strikeout after some amount of time.

I got a strike by adjusting the heat in the rear and another one trying to see what the beeping was all about. They need to adjust the sensitivity. You can see the road while looking at the screen.

Yea. Don't play with your phone. That got me my only strikeout so far. It was forgiven after about a week.

As for driving with glasses. I don't use readers but need glasses for distance. Depending on the lighting conditions, it can be a nuisance to have to wiggle the steering every few minutes.

I’ll try to drive with my reading glasses and edit after I do- I personally don’t need them for any display or other function of the truck. I’ll hang ‘em off my nose too.

nope- I drove onto the sun, away from the sun. Glasses up, (couldn’t see a darn) glasses down (saw the steering wheel buttons well and maybe the music artist better) nothing. I leaned over to pick something off the passenger seat and I feel like the interior camera didn’t see me anymore and kinda freaked out. I sat back up.. all was well. In my experience my readers didn’t once spoof the camera as to where I was looking.

plus I just felt strange driving with readers- I hate them to begin with..

yeah got the same warning, it was in stop and go traffic I kept reaching down but only when nearly stopped for something that slid off the seat. So how long does it take for the four more times to go away?

It gives me warnings for almost everything. If I glance at the screen, adjust the AC, look in side mirrors, look at rear view display on screen, wear sunglasses, etc. it will give me a false awareness warning. It kinda defeats the purpose of full-self driving when it requires more awareness than just normal driving. I’m just waiting for the day that I’m kicked out of normal driving and FSD takes over to ensure safety… once AI catches up.
I generally disengage FSD when I get a false warning and I leave the voice message describing what happened. Hoping it helps Tesla improve.

My thoughts, exactly.

I don’t use it much but I’m pretty sure I’ve used it with my sunglasses on and my hat with a strait bill with no issues

It's 'supervised'. It doesn't defeat that purpose.

You’re missing the point. “Supervised” or not, what is the purpose of a vehicle that drives itself if it requires more “supervision” than driving without it?

No, I'm not. The purpose currently is to supervise. That's the point. It can't get to unsupervised use until it has enough practice.

Depending on traffic, road, and conditions, I can drive manually just fine (might slow down a tad) with peripheral vision for 15 seconds or so, more than it will tolerate when "supervising".

But not everyone can multitask safely (requires strict priorities). So they're erring on the side of caution.
