Is there even a way to do this, and would it make a difference if I order a Foundation or a NF unit?

Foundation VINs should be lower. There’s really not a way to ensure you get a high VIN other than wait as long as possible to place your order. Even that is not guaranteed to give you the highest VIN possible though since you could end up getting a lower VIN that someone else passed on.

Is there a particular concern you have that prompted the question?

Yes, I’ve listened & read online reviews and comments, and they universally say their higher VIN’s are “more solid”, quieter, fewer rattles, etc., than the units they first tested or tried out.
So, I would assume that TSLA is not producing any more FS, right?

You could order, get your VIN and if not in the range you were looking for, then cancel that one and order again. Turn around time should be fairly quick.

PS but use my referral code code the second time ;) http://ts.la/michael61009

You don’t even have to cancel. Just ask them to release the VIN and mention you won’t be able to take the delivery for a few weeks. They will put the account on hold and assign a new VIN after the hold is removed. I did that as I was traveling for 2-3 weeks and couldn’t take the delivery. They assigned a new VIN.

Wait a little longer and you may get the new and improved dry cathode 4680 battery pack.

If you wait even LONGER A, you might get the refreshed version that comes out circa 2035. /s
Exactly! I swear these inquiries NEVER get old! Remember the 10,000 posts when Tesla went from intel to AMD Ryzen procs? "Ermagaaahd should I wait"..."If I buy now will I get the AMD ermagaaahd I don't know what to do"....hahahaha!

I know you’re right, just trying to understand the process.
Ok, seriously now. I take it you are a perspective first time Tesla owner?

Tesla do not operate like traditional auto manufacturers where you have fixed year models with set features. Instead, think of them like smartphones, constantly evolving. For example, if you buy a 2024 Model 3 early in the year, the one someone else buys later that same year might have subtle (or even significant) hardware differences, like an updated component or, at times, a full-on refresh.

Here’s how I recommend approaching it: Ask yourself, "For the model I’m interested in, is there an upcoming major refresh or redesign expected?"

• If the answer is no: You’re good to go! Config, order, and enjoy.
• If the answer is yes: It very well might be worth waiting (I would say it is).

Take the Model Y, for instance. It’s an incredible vehicle as it stands right now, but with a widely anticipated refresh on the horizon, waiting could make sense if you’re not in a rush.

The beauty of Tesla, though, is that most updates, especially software related ones are delivered over-the-air (OTA). So unless it’s a total hardware refresh, you’ll get to enjoy all the latest features as they roll out.

Considering this is the CT forum. I would not expect any MAJOR upgrades in that sense anytime soon so....... https://www.tesla.com/cybertruck/design#overview

Cheers!
