Two dooms day posts in a row. Guys…..I worry less about the world ending and more about Biden giving your Cybertruck to the Taliban….?
hey the Taliban were once American allies.....until the Soviet invasion ended and the US had no plan for what to do in Afghanistan when that happened.

Private land owners are already required to clear underbrush. We are talking about TINY plots of land. The state and federal governments own the vast majority of land that is burning (ever burns). So our tax dollars would/should go to clearing the brush. Why no return to the native Indian tradition of controlled burns?

I am sorry but how is this related to Cybertruck production?
removing brush won't fix anything... the carbon is still there. the carbon that was freed needs to be removed from the atmosphere and fixed in location where it can't be recycled....where it once was underground.

People seem to think Tesla is playing a shell game here. If you want a safe known product with a predictable delivery time, this isn't it. The Cybertruck is:
  • Built using a unique body style with new manufacturing techniques
  • Atop an unproven structural battery
  • Filled with a next generation/ new form factor battery made with new production methods
  • With die cast front and rear assemblies bigger than any previously manufactured at scale.
Tesla is essentially beta-testing a bunch of new technologies in one product. What is causing the delay is literally why we are interested in the product.

If they were building a predictable truck on a proven platform, it would be more likely to be on time... but far less interesting.
the CT isn't built yet because:
1) the factory isn't built
2) the steel factory isn't built
3) the gigapress isn't built.

Tough logic to deduce that outcome.

First deliveries weren't scheduled until end of year with volume production for Q1 2022.

Also, you've skipped the fundamental missing piece. They haven't figured out how to manufacture the batteries which underpin the entire thing. Without batteries and the structural pack to stuff them into, no point in rushing any of the above. You end up with an idle gigapress and factory.

The Model Y line is in the home stretch. The Cybertruck line could be finished well before year end 2022. The batteries are still missing though.

I anticipated this, so I bought one of the last Toyota Sequoias off the line. Awful fuel economy; far worse than the 13/17 EPA sticker. Gets about 8 mpg around town. I plan to quickly sell the guzzling dinosaur as soon as I get my hands on the CT. 2024

The complete crap fuel economy on SUVs is criminal.

I couldn't stomach it when I bought my last car which is why we eventually settled on the Subaru Outback. Everything else remotely 4WD capable was ridiculous.

This is a a little misunderstanding:

The Taliban were never US allies - the Mujahideen were. The Taliban were kids in refugee camps when the Mujahideen were fighting for freedom. Once the US left, the Taliban formed to 'take back' their country from the factions that had formed in the aftermath. The Taliban revered the Mujahideen (and hated some: because some Mujahideen weren't religiously pure enough).

The reason they asked for a World Court case against bin Laden was because he had Mujahideen cred for shooting down a helicopter (or so goes the story). That meant they needed pretty serious evidence to be able to arrest him, since he was a hero guest in their country. It would have been like asking to arrest one of our Founding Fathers.

Forest fires can be ecological and economic disasters, but they do not contribute to climate change. All the carbon locked in plants was pulled from the atmosphere, and will be returned to it when the plant decomposes (including burning). That's a natural part of the carbon cycle.

Fossil-fuels are made from carbon that's been locked away for millions of years, which is why they cause a rapid change in the atmospheric concentration (well, geologic-scale rapid).

I'm bummed about the CT delay, but I surrendered my ICE lease last year and haven't looked back. I'm currently borrowing a car and have the DeLorean as a backup (although I'm disinclined to introduce it to inclement weather).

I think it's an interesting challenge to see how long I can go without a primary vehicle. For the cost of owning a car for one year, I can take Uber everywhere lol

They can if they unlock carbon that hasn't been in the atmosphere for millennia, like say, a redwood forest or the tundra peat; or the carbon is not recaptured by new growth, like deforestation or soil decomposition.

Witch this year's fires are doing to a piece of the surface of the Earth larger than Texas.

what other brands? the rivian isn't a work truck and the E150 will be made in low numbers...... at some point as they also don't really have a solid date.
I agree that the others will not have the scale of Tesla, which means even more that lost sales to them won't matter much to Tesla. As far as the others not being a good option because they aren't work trucks, that depends on what the buyer is getting it for. The only reasons I want the Cybertruck are because it's a Tesla and because with the SS exterior I won't have to worry about paint or dings. And because I can haul the small stuff that I sometimes need to in the bed instead of towing a small trailer with my Model 3. A lot of buyers won't be using their trucks for work.

Anticipating delays, I purchased a Model Y to tide me over until my Cybertruck would be ready.
SO GLAD I did.

I'm enjoying the Model Y - but unfortunate so is my wife :sneaky:

I'll be trading her in when the Cybertruck is ready [ the model y, not the wife  ]
Same here! Wife and I discussed this and she asked if I was going to trade in the Y for CT... I glanced at her and noticed impending sadness so I told her she would keep HER car.

Yes I do have a happy life!

SOURCE Sawyer Merritt on twitter:

The Cybertruck has been delayed to late 2022. "Production starting late 2022 and volume production in 2023". This is per a company wide conference call with employees.

[Admin addendum: Elon did add this about the Cybertruck: "It will be a special project. Like a glitch in the Matrix. Like if Neo had a car."]

So there you have it folks. Volume production will begin in 2023. If you are 100,000 and above for your place in line, start thinking 2024, or later, the further down the list your spot is.:cry:
As bummed as i may be I would rather it be right over rushed
