Rumored Cybertruck Configurations - Dual, Quad, and PLAID

I’ve taken a road trip in a Model Y from northern California to Arizona (741 miles) and although it is super convenient having SCs being so prevalent across the U.S., it did make the trip longer by 2.5 hours each way.

2.5 hours is not that much of a difference under normal conditions, but when you factor in towing, having to use A/C, etc., then having to constantly stop to charge that similar travel will considerably increase by more than 2.5 hours.

So yes, range in a vehicle that some of us will use as a utility vehicle (as Tesla claimed it would be during their unveil) is certainly VERY important.

Just did a 1200 mile trip in the Model Y, I’m curious how you can get 2.5 hours of delay.

Most of our stops we’re 20 minutes or less. Basically time to use the bathroom, and grab some lunch. This was mostly in California on a holiday weekend.

I think the first strong evidence of a Cybertruck Plaid was over a year ago when Musk said that’s what he would be driving.

Not sure if many of you have ever road trip'd in the United States in a Tesla, but range is not going to be as big a problem as you think. SCs are are so prevalent and popping up all over the place all the time. Now, if you plan to try and stay off grid, do your own thing in a CT, it is going to be difficult for you. That is not part of Tesla's business model and charging at a SC is integral to that.

We just did 2,900 miles in wifey's Y and it was great, much better than I thought it would be. The CT will be much less efficient than a X, but I still think it will be fine if you do your part, plan your routes, and don't think you can be Mario Andretti and defy physics with how you drive...

Hopeful that the above info does play out, they (as they have done in the past) just switch orders to whatever the like is, and even more hopefully don't increase the price. Wish us all luck!

I am not looking for the range to skip supercharger stops. I am looking for the range to be a security blanket when traveling offroad in the middle of nowhere and to have enough range when towing.

Have no idea why people compare MY and CT range usage. CT will be utilized in a completely different way. I want to have as much as a possible range not just because I will be driving 12 hours straight with eyeballs out. I want to make sure when I tow I do not have to stop at every single SC and find a spot to park a trailer, unhook the trailer to be able to SC and then hook it up back to CT. It will take an additional 40 min to charging time and get back to the road in real life.
Therefore I preordered CT3 just because of the range! And do not forget that 500mi claimed range does not equal the real-world range!!!

Who needs a jackwad that launches his CyberTruck Plaid at a street light to blow away a Porsche next to him, and he loses control, veers into the Porsche and takes them both out and into oncoming traffic.

I can live with my CyberTruck "only" doing 0-60 in 5 seconds. LOL. My god, who needs more acceleration than that.....I will cause the boat I am towing to do a wheelie.

Maybe you should go live in Russia or China where they make laws to protect you so you don’t get hurt.

The physical act of stopping tends to wake up. Still, with 250 miles of range that's four hours of driving. Hardly anyone's bladder goes that far. It's more like two on the freeway, but that's still a long way for a bladder.

The first thing I do when I get in City I’m visiting start planning on where I’m going to charge while I’m there. Would be nice not to have to worry about that for a few days I wanted.

What is "legally" yours is what you paid for as specified in the bill of sale. It has nothing to do with what a device is capable of doing. Possession has nothing to do with it. Most computer systems come with legal usage terms, in other words you really don't own the software, you are licensed to use it and that license can be revoked at any time. Hacking any operating system is in violation of your purchase agreement and has been supported in many courts. Go ahead and hack your CT and see what happens to it. I bet Tesla has plenty of backdoors to shut you down.

I know I’m not the one you were replying to, but I’m buying my truck for the trips. Willing to accept the 5% efficiency penalty on the other short trips I make with it when my wife is driving our Model Y.

My non road-trip mileage isn’t high enough where it bothers me a whole lot.

The Cybertruck is so full of other compromises, it’s not a great in town car anyhow.

But it’s an extra day of sleeping in relative comfort. Or an extra 50 miles further out there I can go and return.

I know i’ve had range or low battery issues affect trips. I don’t think I’ve ever hauled 3500 pounds in one load.

Well.. currently the longest range model S and X is NOT the plaid version. Same goes for 3 and Y.. highest performance/most expensive model is not the most range.

What I want most is range. If the Plaid has more range then the other variants, then Plaid is what I will drive.
