So Electrek just posted an article about Airstream working on a trailer that will have its own battery and propulsion solution so as to not create drag on the tow vehicle. For some reason it’s not letting me post the link. I will put in comments.

This is yet another reason to stop worrying so much about 500 plus miles of range. I think the towing advancement we will see over the next 10 years will be incredible. Gives more reason to going with that smaller more efficient battery pack so your not hauling an additional 1000 lbs of battery when you don’t need it.

I noticed this wasn’t new news but the agreement airstream initiated recently seems to make it more of a reality. I do agree it will be crazy expensive. Probably cheaper to just buy the added range in the CT, but eventually the cost will come down. Airstream is already $80k plus trailer so add that Electric option and you probably get to $150k. Definitely not your $2k pop up trailer from the 80s

Just when I'm thinking of downsizing from RV-trailer to truck camper for the Cybertruck.

Decision... decision.

What we need is a standardized swap-able pack modules based on 4680 LiFePO4 cells. Maybe each module 15Kwh - 30Kwh. Two standard sizes. Multiple modules could be used in RV travel trailers, medium-sided trailers and large commercial trailers (type pulled by semis).

Need communications to tow vehicle of capabilities and limitations of each trailer.
Trailers could optionally have items like solar panels, regen type motors on some wheels, some wheels be steerable.

If the trailer has self propulsion why get a CT? I’m guessing you could “pull” this with a Model 3, <sarcasmON> or an ebike. <sarcasmOFF>

Its like the NIO battery swap

In only a few years, a NIO driver will be passing a plethora of FAST charging stations looking for a swap station. That tech will be unnecessary.

The same goes for this Airstream idea. As time goes by, it will have less value… if not already... we have to rest anyway.

Stupid expensive, but thinking on it, a combination home battery backup/ trailer is kind of appealing.

Not so appealing I’d want to spend $100k on an Airstream, but appealing.

Half the size would be fine with my travel trailer. I don’t need any dancing room. I’ll be fine walking sideways in the trailer.
