Bollinger just announced they are cancelling consumer trucks and focusing on commercial trucks. They will start refunds on Monday.

My quick research showed they may have had 19,000 reservations at $1000 each. I am guessing many people already got a refund, but $19,000,000 in refunds got to hurt.

I can't imagine how any new start up thinks they will compete against Tesla and the established players for the commercial market.

Well, how did Tesla compete against the Big Three? Easy: solid execution, and a spare $1B for setting on fire.

1.) They started 19 years ago and allowed Elon to join their ranks.
2.) They hit a critical mass before the competition even knew it.
3.) They started with luxury niche buyers that could afford to be early adopters.
4.) Commercial trucks will be very competitive.
5.) Fleet Managers would need to take a big risk on a start up.

I have to say that I liked the Bollinger truck. It was way more expensive with fewer use cases/features than what I was willing to pay for but I did really want it to exist. And who wouldn’t love having that full-on whole vehicle pass-through loading area. RIP.

Correct me if I'm wrong . . . but I saw an interview where Robert Bollinger actually said that it weighed so much that they didn't need safety equipment, milage ratings, or mandates and their decision was "we didn't include any typical safety features to not make it heavier or cost more to build".

No crumple zones, no airbags, no passenger safe dashboards, steering wheel or seatbacks. Bollinger marketed it as "it follows a farm vehicle mindset". Just a bumper and seatbelts in 202x.

Hmmm... I like my family. Sorry, but I'll take a hard pass on that.

I didn’t see where Bollinger said that. I do know that it was in the class of vehicle which doesn’t legally need any of that.

Some people thought (still think?) the Cybertruck would be in that same class of vehicle.

Oh that's easy. Just build them with a full-size spare tire.

Who else saw this coming? besides everyone?
Well...not everyone here. 33% thought we might be seeing it on the road in 2025-2026 timeframe.

Anybody can compete, it's a huge market out there with millions of buyers, and there are buyers for just about any product you can make. Sorry to see Bollinger dippin' out of consumer trucks, oh well. I thought their truck was pretty badass looking, and 19,000 units is nothing to scoff at. They had put together a nice package, I wish them well. Maybe down the road it'll pop back up.

But you think the Hummer will be around in 5 years LOL.

GM isn’t going to be in condition to have a second vanity brand by then.

I was actually looking forward to owning a B2 along with a CT. I did not make any reservation.
