gigacast is ment to fracture in spots, they can cut affected spots out and bolt on replacements.. maybe you get lucky and get it totaled would be my hope.
I think that's only in the front and rear crumble zones. That was a pretty good sideways impact directly to the front wheel into the heart of the front frame.

I added blue lines where I can see cracked areas. I really would wish they could just replace that giga cast wheel area entirely and at a rate insurance will not total

I really worked hard for my CyberTruck, waited the 5 years and by a miracle was actually able to make it happen. I’ve lost my career since and things have been hard, I’m using the truck to make my income daily not commuting but apps and gigs. I don’t know if I could get financed again my credit is about 630 vs 700 when I got the cyber in 2024. This is my most loved vehicle and I really am at a heart loss.

On my way home 2 miles away a 2023 Camry turned into my lane abruptly I was manual driving next thing i know big impact crazy sounds and lost control of cyber.

Could not drive home and insurance could not line up a tow truck for me (progressive).

No human injury’s but the front passenger tire will not turn, or hold air and it makes some nasty noises trying to do so . My windshield is damaged and the frames lost its gaps and cantrail is out of spec now.

What are the chances it’s an insurance total? There are no immediate errors besides low tire pressure.
probably not going to be deemed a total loss by insurance, but I bet it will come close to be honest. If they do total it, negotiate a buyback from insurance and fix the truck with money you get from the payout.

big pro tip: make absolutely sure you file a diminished value and loss of use claim against the other persons insurance. Hire a lawyer if you have to, but usually if you have Grok draft up a very solid demand letter, they will cave (because they assume it came from a specialist in the first place).

edit: just saw your update about the frame being cracked. my guess is that insurance will total due to them not having solid data on frame repairs. This is good news for you. Buy the truck back from them at a super low price, and fix it yourself while you wait for a new truck.

the labor costs are what will eat this one up in total loss, not the parts that are damaged.

The gigacast assembly for both sides is only 2k, and it can be delivered in 10 days.... insurance better not drop the ball on this, thats a no brainer replace it!
Even in your financial situation, I would lean towards having them total it. That means the other driver's insurance company should pay your replacement cost. You may have to fight them to get enough to replace it with a like used vehicle in similar condition with similar mileage. I would think you could also get transport costs if there are no like vehicles in a reasonable pickup area. Basically, no matter what your reasonable expenses are to make you whole, the insurance should cover it since the other driver was clearly at fault. You may need an attorney. Having to fight to get a fair settlement is a risk no matter whether they decide to repair it or total it.

Just a heads up, your title isn't great and this will likely end up on Torque News or some other click bait website as "Tesla Driver Crashes Cybertruck when steer by wire fails".

This is the problem with not having a steel frame separate from the body. It's a giant model Y with aluminum crumble zones surrounding the steel cab. We need a fan to make external rollcage with tube steel bumpers.

It did not fail, the steering is unresponsive on the front passenger tire due to axle misalignment and structural damage from this vehicle collision
