Well it's certainly true that owning a car in (central, at least) Paris is an INconvenience... due to the parking issue. And finding a parking space as large as the CT will be even more challenging. The other side, though, would be to have the CT take itself "home" and then come get you when...
It'll DEFINITELY turn heads driving around Paris! And you don't have to worry about people opening their doors into your Cybertruck and leaving dents in yours. ;-) TRES bien!
It will be much easier to move stuff between similar Gigapresses than different ones... it just makes sense to have one overhead crane for 8000 ton presses and one for 6000 ton presses. They are also more likely to have similar infrastructure needs and arrangements. And there isn't (yet?) an...
I also have to wonder if the additional delay might not make it more likely that the Cybertruck will also have the Tesla-patented laser windshield wiper(s)? I expect at least a few more surprise announcements...
It will probably depend on where the foundation is being prepared... if it's on the west side of the casting area, it's presumably another 6,000 ton press. If it's on the east side... then it could actually be the first 8,000 ton press.
I will actually be surprised, given its huge size, if Gigafactory Texas doesn't end up producing something like a million vehicles a year all by itself... once its production is fully ramped-up.
Gigafactory Texas has three of the 6,000 ton Gigapresses... two installed and working, and the third one being installed but not yet (the last I heard) operational (and no sign yet of the third melting furnace, if they use a different furnace for each Gigapress).
And the 8,000 ton Gigapress...
Just got back from breakfast and decided to drive it around on the paved circle outside the house. Turned off the CT and brought it inside, and after a few minutes the power LED on the controller DOES turn off.
Works great, but have you figured out how to turn off the controller? There's a power switch on the CT but on the controller the power LED seems to stay on.... how long? Seems crazy to have to take out a battery (with a screwdriver!) to turn the controller off...?
Is it actually electric somehow?
Hmm.... there actually are remote-control ones too, both 1:63 scale and 1:10 scale...listed on both Amazon and Ebay...
The 8,000 ton GIgapress is to cast (high-strength aluminum alloy) the rear suspension/chassis (and bed?). These will be the largest aluminum castings in the world.
Yes, of course. But "straightened out somehow" is the problem. 3mm thick ultra-strong stainless steel alloy is (as I mentioned in an earlier comment) either springy, or not... Either way, it's going to be challenging to put it onto a spool (and take it off) and that's going to be more...
It's a safe guess that it's going to be cut using something like a plasma torch. I do expect that further cutting will be done in Austin, but it'll surely be cut at the steel provider too.
The spools would need to be small enough that they can fit on a flatbed truck and be transported on a highway. The SpaceX rocket boosters are MUCH more than 20 feet in diameter.
As for "presses", that's precisely the point. This 3mm thick stainless alloy basically doesn't work in "steel...
