  1. Pack level specific energy density vs cell level

Ah.... okay, now we're cooking with gas. :) So I get the cells being ahead of production... but then again, 2710s are roughly 267 Wh/kg at the cell level for reals out in the wild... but drop to 166 at the pack level... wow... So you would think the 4680s would get a pretty big energy density...
  2. Pack level specific energy density vs cell level

Right, so the truck is more energy dense but the battery pack is the same. I get that. Still not sure why cell level energy density increases don't equate to pack level energy density increases. :) I'm going to watch the Sandy video and see if he can get through my lead-lined skull.
  3. Pack level specific energy density vs cell level

So they claimed a 16% increase in energy density from the 4680... but that is at the cell level. I've seen claims the pack level won't improve that much.... that just doesn't make sense to me. How could they reduce weight while at least retaining if not increasing cell level density and not get...
  4. Pack level specific energy density vs cell level

Thanks! I'm familiar with both those channels... The Limiting Factor is incredible, but one has two kids and an ex-wife and a partner and can't watch all 18 parts of the battery series! I'm still not sure why pack specific energy has not increase at least somewhat inline with cell level...
  5. Pack level specific energy density vs cell level

Hi All, Something I have been wondering for a while and I'm hoping someone here can help me understand relates to pack level energy density versus cell level. I keep seeing this interesting numbers for the growth in cell level specific energy for the cells Tesla use. Numbers for cell level...
  6. Update from Elon: Cybertruck production starting late 2022 and volume production in 2023

Yep, specific energy has been increasing 5% per year. That means less cells needed, means lower costs on top of cheaper to produce cells.
  7. Update from Elon: Cybertruck production starting late 2022 and volume production in 2023

This is all about 4680 supply. It's unlikely the truck as presented is viable without 4680s, the price would change dramatically if they used different cells. Tesla rolled the dice on 4680 production and it's turning out to be harder than they hoped, but I suspect they will succeed in raising...
  8. Sandy's rant. lol. I love this man.

What maintenance? I’ve never heard of a correlation between Tesla battery age and risk of catching fire. The risk of Tesla EVs catching fire is much lower than gas cars. This has been apparent for years. Tesla also highlights this in their latest Tesla Impact Report…...
  9. Latest Emergency Vehicle Collision in Houston

I think it's wise to temper any fandom with some cynicism. After all, they exist in a world where spin is a common denominator so it's to be expected. To be honest I would be disappointed if they didn't spin things because it helps achieve their mission which is something I believe in. I...
  10. Latest Emergency Vehicle Collision in Houston

You could argue that if a human and FSD together result in a X times safer driving experience then it doesn't really matter. Whether the FSD or the combo of human and FSD that gets the credit is somewhere irrelevant, except to those developing FSD of course. Now I would like to see the data on...
  11. I see Cramer is at it again….he’s clearly NOT a truck person.

Cramer doesn't have the bandwidth to follow things closely enough. He has a lot of heuristics in his head for valuing companies but not one that covers an opportunity like Tesla IMO. Eventually he caught up when his wife and daughter were both telling him to buy one and so he became a fan. He...
  12. The only cybertruck accessory I want.

My partner and I named our Model 3 “TARS”. ?
  13. Cybertruck takeaways from AI Day: coming in about a year & getting upgraded AI hardware for FSD

Man... that sucks... it might be a good truck but after hearing about the debacle with the Mach E software I'd be nervous about Ford's software. Is there any possibility of a short term lease? Enterprise does long term rentals, but an F150 is like $1300 a month. Ouch. Maybe Turo?
  14. Will RWS be standard or optional?

Honestly, if it is an option I'm going to consider paying for it. Maybe not if it's $7K or something, but for $2-3K I may well check that box. I drive a Golf R most of the time, largest thing I've driven for an extended period is a mini-van. I once drove some GM (I think) truck back around...
  15. Cybertruck takeaways from AI Day: coming in about a year & getting upgraded AI hardware for FSD

Yeah, I didn't think Elon's words necessarily meant the CT wasn't shipping for a year, just that the FSD computer would ship then. I do recognize that maybe it MIGHT mean that, but it's not clear.
  16. Tesla’s (TSLA) D1 Chip Is a Brilliant Checkmate to the Company’s NHTSA Investigation Disaster

Indeed. I've seen this LIDAR claim a few times. People don't realize they were using some LIDAR systems to validate the LIDAR like capabilities they developed from the vision system. It was NOT a sign that Tesla is going to use LIDAR.
  17. Mattel Hot Wheels

Could be, I'd lean towards it had powered off but it's complete guess. Perhaps someone can pull it apart and find out. :)
