Had a great maiden trip with our new Aliner LXE! Went to Oshkosh EAA airshow for the first time. Camped a few different spots, 5 nights total. 700 miles without the trailer, 1000 miles WITH the trailer. Cybertruck pulled it like it was nothing. Getting about 175 miles per charge, which means stopping about every 2-2.5 hours for a 25-40 minute charge. Perfect with kids!
Picking it up!
First time setting the Aliner camper up:
Our set up at Oshkosh (We charged a bit right before getting to campsite (to about 90%). We plugged the Aliner into the truck's power output and used about 30% for 3 nights camping. Worked quite well!):
In case you were wondering how much a 4x8 sheet of plywood sticks out of the bed when the tailgate is up, it's around 26". From the tailgate to the end of the sheet is more like 14". I got a single sheet of 1/2"-4x8 and a sheet of EPS foam. I'm not sure what the load rating of the tailgate is, but I would be apprehensive of doing more than three or four 3/4" sheets with the tonneau cover like this. Any bumps in the road might put too much upward pressure on the underside of the tonneau cover.
Installing some 4x8 slatwall panels at a local business. Truck performed perfectly. Was nice to be able to lock the tools up when working inside the store but still have them ready for the next cut.
The ample tie-downs were quite nice to keep stuff from sliding around on my way.
Of course, despite being a slow Sunday I got lots of questions from passerbys.
Couldn't wait on Tesla's roof racks so ordered these from CyberTruckCo - my hang glider is 17.9 feet long and fits perfectly on the mounting points. Also have a 1UP rack for the mountain bike - all ready for the weekend!
60CF CO2 tank fits nicely under the tonneau.
Also, although I bought it mainly for grocery-getting, the Three Pocket Cargo Net by @BestEvMod(AOSK) works nicely as a sling on the side for misc. accoutrements.
I wanted to post this as it was my first time experiencing what it's like to tow with the Cybertruck. I have never towed in my life, but I managed to get the hang of it within 20-30 minutes - especially when it came to reversing. It was an exhilarating experience and definitely converted a true Dodge RAM enthusiast to give the Cybertruck a real consideration as his next truck. Though, I hope in the future I'll be towing a boat or perhaps a box trailer when I decide to move again.
500+ mile tow. Half was just the empty trailer going to get the car. Then coming back close to 7500 lbs on the way back. Average 700 watts. Going about 60-65 mph.
I got so many looks and even a few thumbs up from other Tesla drivers.
