Interesting claim of only enough battery capacity for 24k CTs per year. If that is true then maybe that’s all there will be in 2024. Ramping CT and battery in parallel could happen. And maybe given what they describe as an incredibly cost inefficient process of outsourcing components that need super sealed and super fast shipping from China to Texas they would want to throttle the ramp until they can insource it all.

Lots of folks waiting for the $79k CT so they can get the full $7500 tax credit, but until they get the materials from approved sources then the full tax credit is not there.

This might also be why the FSCT’s are all that’s available for a while.
Why do you say that they aren't ready for the tax credit? I'm pretty sure that they don't have to be 100% American.

The reason there is no tax credit is indeed because of the Chinese battery components. I just heard that yesterday at the Tesla Showroom while test driving the new Model 3 upgrade.

There's a difference between made in China batteries and Chinese battery components.

Don't trust what you hear in a Tesla showroom.

Based on the article, the components Tesla is purchasing from china are 35% of the battery cost. Per the IRA, a vehicle in 2024 using 4680 cells is eligible for $3750 tax credit. In 2025, zero.

i would assume Tesla will get the 4680 components and minerals from acceptable sources to be eligible for the full $7500 credit in 2025.

While I am not an expert on the subject that would make sense why they are selling all FS trucks.
If the truck is not eligible for the 7.5k tax credit which makes the truck feasible for some it wouldn't make sense for them to offer that 79k version until the tax credit can be taken care of.
