EDIT 9-11-2023 to update:

CONFIRMED: the new base wheel offering comes shoed with a Pirelli Scorpion ATR hybrid on / off road tire

Saw them today with mine-own-eyez

Given the weight of the CT, it’s speed rating, and the CT’s range aspirations, my *strong* assumption is these Pirellis are from the EV-tuned “ELECT” line of tires (described in OP below)

The Scorpions are also ~34.6” like the Goodyear (couldn’t read fine print on sidewall, but saw these near the Goodyear offering and they’re ~identical in size)

Tesla Cybertruck UPDATE - CONFIRMED: Pirelli Scorpion ATR Tire (and base wheel) Package [8-28-2023] Update [9-11-2023] C812A002-1C83-4352-ADE9-666D863374A6

[Original 8-28-2023 Post:]

In this tiktok video circulating today, I noticed an all-new wheel set, as well as an all-new tire for the Cybertruck - but the new tire is maybe the bigger news.

Compared to the beefier wheel first seen on release candidates (and wearing beefier Goodyear M&S tires), this new wheel set appears more basic, and the tire appears to be a more street-oriented offering.

Notice the inset heptagonal shape around the lugs/hub, which was first seen only in the newer wheel set of the GFTX release candidates:

Tesla Cybertruck UPDATE - CONFIRMED: Pirelli Scorpion ATR Tire (and base wheel) Package [8-28-2023] Update [9-11-2023] 1693249056009

Of the various differences compared to previously seen tire offerings (SEE ADDENDUM BELOW), note eg the new design pattern on the midline of the sidewall:

Also, while difficult to make out in any still photo from the video, the video itself has a distinctive lack of any typically large 'Goodyear' branding.

I'm personally convinced instead that what *can* be made out in the video is the tell-tale 'Pirelli' emblem

If that *is* Pirelli, here's why that could be exciting:

Pirelli offers its "ELECT" line of tires, built specifically for BEVs - both dealing with the added weight, and claiming to recoup up to 10% of range typically lost to rolling resistance - more from the Perelli site below:

More battery range
Enjoy a long and carefree drive, with an extra boost in battery range when choosing ELECT™ tires, engineered to dissipate less energy thanks to low rolling resistance, which enables up to 10% gain in battery range1. Start your journey with ELECT™ now.
Convenience ELECT™ tyres – lower battery consumption means less need for charging, therefore less energy is needed. This is convenient for both the driver and the environment.
Focus on safety
Control your power. ELECT™ tires are specifically designed with enhanced grip to manage high torque and include reinforced structures to cope with EV weights, which tend to be heavier than traditional vehicles. Optimized performance in both acceleration and braking, with a focus on safety for you and your passengers.
Superior acoustic comfort
Let silence be your driving companion. Electric vehicles are quieter than traditional internal combustion engine vehicles, therefore tyre noise is more noticeable. ELECT™ tyres are specifically designed to reduce perceived in-cabin noise by up to 20%3 for you to enjoy a more comfortable drive. Feel the benefits of electric driving, starting with a quiet journey.

Durable Tire
Electric vehicles can generate stronger stresses on tire wear and tear. Pirelli’s new innovative process aims to maintain the extended mileage required for high-performing EV tires while also minimizing waste of raw materials during the design and testing phases

Previously, I believe ELECT lines were replacement only. And currently they don't offer an ELECT in CT sizes (Why would they - what BEV would wear them).

But if Tesla is looking to eek out as much range from the CT as possible, and they are, I can see a Tesla-Pirelli ELECT cooperation to create a CT-specific tire with special sidewall patterns, etc.

If so, Goodyear's deal to do the same wasn't exclusive

Goodyear may still be an option for an off road tire.
to be clear, I do not think this wheel/tire combo *replaces* the premium wheel/Goodyear M&S combo

IT will be optional wheels and tires selection.

I *do* however believe these wheels with the inset heptagonal hub design are the production-offered wheels. They're both set up for accepting the production aero covers with the ring attachments (while the two wheel sets appear dissimilar, the parallel spokes are equidistant, allowing the ring attachments to fit either wheel option - and to meanwhile seat within the heptagonal hub inset).

If I'm Tesla, looking to achieve impressive EPA range figures, I am submitting data on the street tire version (and ideally the Pirelli ELECT)

The Goodyear M&S option I'm expecting to have a material effect on range

I’ve never been a Pirelli fan, I generally dont go fast enough. I trust Tesla has fact checked their claims, this isnt just a cheap plastic tire but it actually is quieter, stronger, lasts longer or what ever it was they claimed the Elect tire does.
I like the customization of the Goodyear with the aero caps. I wont upgrade the wheels, what ever is offered as base will be my selection so I hope the base is all that Pirelli claims if they get the contract.
Pirelli might be the export tire.

The cybertruck has a bit of a tire challenge

basically no one builds a tire that is rated for both the weight and speed

goodyear has clearly built a special M&S tire to meet that challenge

the pirelli ELECT series was basically an entire tire line made for the challenge - though they'll have to be making a larger version (35") than ever before

With 2 million ish on order, it might be a nice contract to land. We may see more manufacturers as production hits the 375K stride. When I think of Pirelli I think of short sidewalls, strong cornering tires, not off road 35s

I'd be very happy to have highway-type tires that are quiet and smooth riding. I'm not going to be driving around muddy, tire-hostile construction or industrial areas. Hopefully we'll be offered our choice as options.

Hopefully better performing than the cr@p Pirelli tires on the Rivian 21" wheels! Customers are struggling to get even 20k miles out of the Pirelli Scorpion Verde 21" AS tires that come standard on the Rivian and they are currently the only tire that fits the vehicle.

apparently those are ELECT, too

“T
The EV startup Rivian has chosen Pirelli Scorpion range to fit its highly anticipated R1T pickup, which begins production in June 2021, and its R1S electric SUV.
Pirelli has developed special versions of its Scorpion Verde All Season, Scorpion Zero All Season and Scorpion All Terrain tires (Pirelli's dedicated range for SUVs and pickups) to meet Rivian's specifications, and to enhance the vehicles' unique characteristics following the “Pirelli Perfect Fit” strategy. Indeed, all Pirelli tires developed for Rivian have a special marking on the shoulder: RIV and Elect.
“Elect” is the marking that identifies Pirelli tires for electric vehicles. Tires play a crucial role in EV performance – they are a key safety, performance, and range optimizer.
Pirelli tires marked “Elect” offer a number of advantages for electric vehicles, thanks to a specific set of technical characteristics. Low rolling resistancehelps to maximize each car's range. In electric cars, reduction in noise accentuates one of the key advantages of electric driving: silence. Finally, the Pirelli tires marked “Elect” offer improved traction in line with the intense demands from the transmission. Electric motors deliver the maximum torque available right from the bottom of the rev range, and so they need tires that can bite into the asphalt instantly.
Pirelli and Rivian co-developed these products over almost two years, and this collaboration has resulted in three special tires: 20, 21 and 22 inches. In particular, the Scorpion Verde All Season in 21 inches have a very special tire size, unique in the world, introduced in the industry by Pirelli specifically for Rivian: 275 55R21.
The technical partnership with Rivian underlines the focus of Pirelli on sustainable mobility and American car brands.”

Many people choosing the more expensive, lower range, 20" wheels and then swapping to AS tires just to avoid the Pirelli 21s. Others banking on competing tires coming available. Some context from one of the (many) posts on the Rivian Forum. Hopefully These work better on the CT. (One problem with the RIvians is that in Conserve mode it operates as a FWD vehicle which seems to eat tires.)

I’ve read about the conserve mode being the main culprit in uneven wear

Super heavy + super fast doesn’t help!

Same tire as in these photos I believe? Possibly smaller than 35"?
Yes similar/same tire - had never made out the midline hep/octagonal sidewall pattern in those older pics

ones in recent video seem 35”-ish

I respect both Pirelli and Goodyear… they are both task specific, or they try to be. With the CT however, I will not make the same mistake I did with my F-150 and get big old rims with a short side wall scorpions that came with them… yes the ride was great, but as soon as you look to step off the paved road, you were asking for trouble. Spent too much money repairing rim damage just from hitting small holes. I’ll stick with the beefier GYs and sacrifice a bit of range to have the freedom to roam!
