Anybody going to use their CT to haul windsurfing gear?

I’m wondering if the vault can be closed, drop the rear seats, open the tailgate and slide in windsurfing gear? Have to be careful not to open the vault and chop the nose of the board!

That's one of the reasons I'm hoping the back window will go down. 6 1/2ft bed won't work. If the back window rolls down you could lock up your boards and 2 piece mast.

You Wouldn't be able to roll the vault closed if something was throught the back window. The vault roll up appeared to roll from the bottom front of the bed up than down to the back...

This did make me think. There would have to be a safety shut-off switch, when the back window is not closed the vault cover would need to shut off, and not open or close. I wouldn't want to damage cargo, a dog, or a person. So, the only time it would operate is with the window closed. I could still see the possibility of having the vault cover down, then rolling the window down though. As a matter of fact, I could see myself doing that a lot. Driving with the vault cover down and the back window down with gear sticking through the window opening.

I’ll definitely be hauling kite gear and possibly windsurfing gear in the CT (kayaks too). With foil gear allowing for shorter boards, I guess the only concern is masts and sails. However, I’m hanging onto my Kona board for our super light wind and navigating the bay.

I do like the pass-through cab idea. I’ve always wanted an Avalanche for that reason. Lots of folks add bed extenders to haul kayaks - the type that attach to the receiver. But l prefer the enclosed and secure method of what you all are considering.

My main concern with hauling gear is corrosion. I hope there’s assurance that there aren’t other components that will deteriorate from saltwater contact. Or, maybe the bed (sorry, “vault”) will be isolated, along with it’s drainage, away from said components.

The vault door will need a sensor to prevent it from rolling onto a dog/ person/ cargo regardless, otherwise things could get caught between the vault door and the tailgate.

Yeah, I will be hauling kayaks, surfboards (longboards) and probably a paddleboard once my wife pulls the trigger on that . I use a bed extender for the kayak I got from harbor freight in my old Ram beater. Looks like the hitch will work just the same so ill probably just keep doing the same thing with the CT. I think Im most excited about the vault and ramp combo for the dogs. having that built in will be gold, especially with my boxer getting on in years.
