Hey all, I have been on other forums with my previous off-road SUVs. So I have been reading a lot about truck tires.

Disclaimer: I don’t know enough about AT3 EV version…but I would still not get them.

The AT3 came to market from design to production in ONE year. That is a very short time frame by most standard. (BFG KOs take 5 years or something to develop and test by comparison.)

AT3 splash onto the off-road scene quickly thanks to Joe Bacal endorsement. I am sure that he got a huge paycheck for that! Every forum was plastered with this.

In actual real world testing, Toyo AT3 is pretty bad in most areas per two independent comparisons! Noisy. Horrible in rain. Not great off-road in term of traction. And not comfortable on-road.

Here are the two tests.

From TireRack: (LT tire tested)

Toyo Open Country A/T III (Off-Road All-Terrain, LT265/70R17 E 121/118S)
  • What We Liked: The steering feels natural and it’s quite good in the snow.
  • What We’d Improve: It’s loud on the road and needs a substantial increase in wet traction.
  • Conclusion: A good option that could use some on-road refinement.

makes sense, if the tire can’t displace air then what chance does it have with water?

Road noise is a big deal, as we don’t have the engine rattle to mask it.

Remember, make sure whatever tires you all buy MUST support appropriate weight of CT. Either LT or XL rated in stock size. That should be #1 priority.

#2 priority…don’t buy tires that are inferior to stock. What is the point? Just to be different? I will never compromise my and family’s safety just to be different.

For me, I will ONLY buy tires from BIG brands (Michelin, BFG, Goodyear, Bridgestone, etc)…and within those brands, i only buy their premium line. Goodyear, for example, makes some crappy tires (e.g. original Duratracs) but their premium line is actually very good.
