IMO, you can’t possibly beat the competition, until you know what the competition is. So, what really, did we all place our reservations on? Something far greater than the competition I bet. Who among us can wait and see? What will the actual CT look like and what options will be available. Ford has already informed the public as to what Ford has to offer, Tesla? Not so much. When will the alien himself release the final design for us all to dream upon? Time is not on my side.

The only reason you have a better idea of what Ford is offering vs. what Tesla is offering is because the electric F-150 is not all that much different than putting an electric powertrain in what they already have. The Cybertruck is revolutionary. But both manufacturers have released approximately the same amount amount of info about their respective offerings.

I've said it before but it bears repeating, the Cybertruck's "competition" is not the F-150 Lightning or the Rivian because those two will be made in relatively small numbers. Ford recently doubled the planned production numbers of the Lightning and it's STILL insignificant. These two vehicles will displace sales of ICE trucks and SUV's, not Cybertrucks. Cybertruck will displace sales of ICE trucks and full-sized SUV's, not Rivians and Lightnings. The competition is the 99% of the market that is ICE trucks and full-sized SUV's.

BEV trucks will eat into the ICE market as quickly as they can be ramped into production. It's a production challenge, not a sales challenge. Tesla will sell everyone they can make for years to come without running a single Cybertruck ad. In three or five years we will see if the Rivian and Lightning are still compelling enough to compete with Cybertruck or if they are destined to wither away into obscurity.

I would suggest that the link below shares way more information than what Tesla has shared about the CT

https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/thr...0-lightning-specs-pricing-photos-videos.3695/

My guess, we get 1 motor, 2 motors or 3 motors oh and black or white, that’s what all Tesla’s offer.

I want to know what we put our reservation on, that’s all. Show me some specifications, options, show me what we’re are going to end up with, that’s all. No more speculation.

Tesla tends to keep its cards close to its vest. That is why they often best everyone else. We need to chill. I’d rather it be right than right now.

@Pappy is probably older than me so he wants to drive his CT to the Pearly Gates for his brunch with St. Peter.

It isn’t chicken or egg existentialism yet

Until contractors demobilize and hardhats disappear its all delay(construction, rain, onsites, battery factory, etc…) Revisit in 12 mo after GigaAUSTIN is completed, onsite improvements are finished ~ July and SOP is possible, at scale ~Oct’22
So long as the 4680 overhang exists, none of the other "delays" matter. If they finish the factory tomorrow and hung up their hard hats, it will just be idle. They have no incentive to spend time or money moving that process any faster than it already is. There is no evidence anything else is delayed so much it would cause the truck to be later.

HERE’s what specs interested me - I captured along the way. What’s missing that interests you? Wrong just wrong? Or irrelevant you don’t want to see specified!

Apologies format went all to hell once it posted online…

PERFORMANCE AND EFFICIENCY

A new class of strength, speed and versatility—only possible with the all-electric design. A powerful Plaid drivetrain and a low center of gravity combine to provide extraordinary traction control and torque—enabling 0-60 mph acceleration in 2.9 seconds and range up to 500 miles.

POWERTRAIN

Tesla Model S/X’s rear inductive motors in back; Model 3’s permanent-magnet rear motor up front. Officially, the configuration is called Raven which features at very light loads, is front-wheel differential driven with dual motors at each of the rear wheels accelerating with carbon fibre wrapped rotor technology from Plaid series. Plaid BMS cooling technology with 4680 cells.

Drive System Type - All Electric Tri-Motor Drive performance level above Ludicrous mode

-----

Assuming that the truck weight, i.e. 5000 pounds but less aerodynamically efficient than an model “X”, I’m guessing that around 400 Wh/m efficiency is about right. Especially with the highly efficient PM motors.

So, 250 x 300 = 75kWh for the $40k version, 300 x 300 = 100kWh for the mid range and 500 x 300 = 150kWh for the high end…

Now, charging a 150kWh battery at 250kW up to 50% SOC and another 100kW to full should take about 24 + 60 = 84 minutes…

At home, with a 9.6kW charger, that’s 21 hours from empty to full! I would argue that supercharging is a must have for these very large batteries… Also, I’m hopping that the truck will have dual on-board 80A chargers which Tesla discontinued…

Long Range Cybertruck version to have double-stacked battery boxes (like the apocryphal Faraday Future FF91). EV truck battery weight shifted forward will preserve payload capacity. Essentially ClassB RV power.

BODY DESIGN & MATERIALS

EXOSKELETON

Cybertruck’s exterior shell made for ultimate durability and passenger protection is built for strength. Starting with the nearly impenetrable exoskeleton, every component is designed for superior strength and endurance, using Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless-steel structural skin.

ULTRA-HARD 30X COLD-ROLLED STAINLESS STEEL

If there was something better, we’d use it. It eliminates dent damage and long-term corrosion with a smooth monochrome exoskeleton which forms a shell on the outside of the vehicle providing maximum protection for you and your passengers .

TESLA STRUCTURAL BATTERY SKID PLATE

Super-structure strong battery pack design fuses battery cells and pack into one solid skidplate using aerospace grade honeycomb epoxy.

TESLA ALUMINUM CASTINGS

Suspension components front and rear are unitized with an all-in-one aluminum casting assembly integrated into one frame exoskeleton battery pack component. Castings remain replaceable separately.

TESLA ARMOR GLASS

Ultra-strong glass and polymer-layered composite materials absorb and redirect any impact force providing improved performance and damage tolerance. Transparent Metal.

VERSATILE UTILITY

Rated 3,500 pound payload capacity and standard adjustable air suspension - Cybertruck is the most powerful tool Tesla have ever built. Engineered 100 cubic feet exterior, lockable storage — including its magic tonneau cover, is strong enough to stand on.

Don't worry Pappy, you will have all the details before you have to risk one shiny penny of your own. If you don't think it's good enough you can move aside for those behind you in line. It's an opportunity to buy a revolutionary new truck but no one is going to force you to take that opportunity. Just be glad that really talented people are hard at work right now to bring you that option. When it arrives you can say "yea" or "nay".

Because the people who work at Tesla are the ones doing the hard work and investing millions of dollars to offer it, it's their choice when they release more details. If you don't like it you can shop elsewhere. It's totally your choice.
