IMO, you can’t possibly beat the competition, until you know what the competition is. So, what really, did we all place our reservations on? Something far greater than the competition I bet. Who among us can wait and see? What will the actual CT look like and what options will be available. Ford has already informed the public as to what Ford has to offer, Tesla? Not so much. BEV trucks will eat into the ICE market as quickly as they can be ramped into production. It's a production challenge, not a sales challenge. Tesla will sell everyone they can make for years to come without running a single Cybertruck ad. In three or five years we will see if the Rivian and Lightning are still compelling enough to compete with Cybertruck or if they are destined to wither away into obscurity.

Tesla tends to keep its cards close to its vest. That is why they often best everyone else. We need to chill. I’d rather it be right than right now.

It isn’t chicken or egg existentialism yet

Until contractors demobilize and hardhats disappear its all delay(construction, rain, onsites, battery factory, etc…) Revisit in 12 mo after GigaAUSTIN is completed, onsite improvements are finished ~ July and SOP is possible, at scale ~Oct’22

So long as the 4680 overhang exists, none of the other "delays" matter. If they finish the factory tomorrow and hung up their hard hats, it will just be idle. They have no incentive to spend time or money moving that process any faster than it already is. There is no evidence anything else is delayed so much it would cause the truck to be later.

Assuming that the truck weight, i.e. 5000 pounds but less aerodynamically efficient than an model “X”, I’m guessing that around 400 Wh/m efficiency is about right. Especially with the highly efficient PM motors.


So, 250 x 300 = 75kWh for the $40k version, 300 x 300 = 100kWh for the mid range and 500 x 300 = 150kWh for the high end…


Now, charging a 150kWh battery at 250kW up to 50% SOC and another 100kW to full should take about 24 + 60 = 84 minutes…


At home, with a 9.6kW charger, that’s 21 hours from empty to full! I would argue that supercharging is a must have for these very large batteries… Also, I’m hopping that the truck will have dual on-board 80A chargers which Tesla discontinued…

Don't worry Pappy, you will have all the details before you have to risk one shiny penny of your own. If you don't think it's good enough you can move aside for those behind you in line. It's an opportunity to buy a revolutionary new truck but no one is going to force you to take that opportunity. Just be glad that really talented people are hard at work right now to bring you that option. When it arrives you can say "yea" or "nay".

Because the people who work at Tesla are the ones doing the hard work and investing millions of dollars to offer it, it's their choice when they release more details. If you don't like it you can shop elsewhere. It's totally your choice.

If @Pappy is so discouraged, they should give up their reservation. ?

Tesla has a proven track record of delivering EVs, though sometimes late.

Ford has a track record of doing the bare minimum to make it appear they are actually doing something.

In any event, Ford and other big auto makers must succeed in making EVs or they are done. Telsa has forced the issue, which was Musk’s goal all along.
