Hey All,

Is anyone else having an issue with the attention monitoring system being unavailable? I just got back from a roughly 70mi drive and I wanted to use FSD for a lot of the driving. Every time I turned it on I got the attention monitoring unavailable notice. It was dark out and mostly highway driving - so I'm not sure if this is just a night time issue or something that requires a service visit? It kept making me nudge the wheel every few minutes which was kind of annoying. As I mentioned it was night time, so I wasn't wearing any kind of glasses, or ball cap, just driving like I normally do. I'll test it again tomorrow during the day to make sure but I wanted to see if anyone else was having this issue? Thanks

I wear sunglasses all the time and this pops up on me off and on on a regular basis. FSD is also a lot harsher on me than on other people that I've seen. I think its my sunglasses (or maybe that I've flipped it off a lot for telling me to pay attention when I already am @_0).

It's a night time thing. The darker it is, the less likely it is to work. Night time with lots of traffic and street lights work most of the time but in the country with little light, I have to hold the wheel. One nice thing with the Cybertruck is it responds to very little pressure compared to my model Y. You just have to hold it a sec before it registers.

It couldn’t see your eyes. Hat, glasses too dark or mirrored, nighttime; whatever the cause, you get that message when the system can’t resolve your eyes.

I was on a major highway, so it wasn't like it was a dark country road, although it was still dark there were street lights and other cars around. Good to know its not just me though

Yeah I get what you mean, the reason I was asking is because these were fairly standard night time conditions that it should be able to handle. No hat or glasses, major highway with lights and other cars, I was looking forward and paying attention - I don't fully trust FSD yet to not pay complete attention. If anything this should be the one ideal situation that it does work in - unless you can't use it at night.

I had the same problem during the day. Was wearing sunglasses but it should still work or the monitoring system has very limited functionality. Hopefully, an OTA update fixes this soon.

It was much better a few versions ago. Now like OP it barely works at night and as others sunglasses can break it as well. My 2020 Model Y is doing much better right now on HW3.....I'm sure another update or two will fix it

I believe it is a connectivity issue, I get the same thing when the Wi-Fi is having issues. It doesn't find routes that I try to punch in.

This past Sunday just around noon with a cloudless sky I started getting that alert on Hwy 101. First time ever. I‘ve had melanoma & the other 2 forms of skin cancer in the past & so my head is always covered in the daytime & my sunglasses are not reflective. Also, I always ensure the camera can see my eyes, so who knows where the heck this bug came from. And I had thoroughly cleaned the windshield the day before because of phantom swiping.

That being said, FSD seemed to continue as normal on my 45 mile drive from Hoodsport, WA to the COSTCO at Lacey, WA. Ditto n the return trip.

I will repeat that same trip tomorrow morning & will be curious to see if the same thing happens.

Maybe something is wrong with your multipass? ??‍♂ You said your head is “always covered” you didn’t steal that nice man’s hat did you, Korben? Cause that could be your problem, right there.

Any chance your windows are tinted dark? Mine are, including front windshield and noticed sometimes at night, I get the notification to nudge the steering wheel with fsd more often. Think it might be due to the limited street lights entering the windows because during the day I don’t have many issues with it.

If it's a light issue, I'd consider manually turning up the brightness of the center display. That might add just enough ambient to your face for the cam to resolve your eyes.

If you turn on one side of the interior light it provides enough light for the FSD camera to operate.

I found if I move the thumb volume knob up one click it will satisfy the “turn the wheel” requirement.
I move it down one click immediately after. Works with the speed increase decrease thumb knob too.
