Most of these cases the driver was under the influence, and in several cases, Autopilot wasn't shown to be active. NHTSA investigated.

Also, the safety devices are only supposed to reduce the impacts, and cannot override the driver's inputs. This is the same for every car maker, not just Tesla.

The WSJ piece is out of date and grossly misleading. For example, the reporter doesn't distinguish "Autopilot" from Tesla's FSD Beta. The two are significantly different. Autopilot is nothing more than "adaptive cruise control" with lane following, something that most upscale cars and truck manufacturers offer today. Autopilot does not do unprompted lane changes as the reporter implied. Another misrepresentation: she claimed that drivers have ways of defeating the driver monitoring system, showing someone taping over the interior camera. Nonsense. If you tape over the interior camera the system will NOT OPERATE. The more recent versions of FSD Beta incorporate what Tesla calls an "occupancy network" which allows FSD Beta to sense the presence of objects even if they cannot be identified (i.e., labeled). And, as is often the case, "journalists" leave out information that woudl show Autopilot and FSD in a positive light. Conclusion: WSJ is guilty of disseminating Tesla FUD. Ignore them.

FSD handles 95% of my driving, it’s incredible for road trips because it eliminates the cognitive stress of driving and you just sort of direct the car.

given that I only used it 10% of my driving last year, the progress has been incredible. V12 with end to end AI will solve autonomy.

Sorry, but you cannot believe anything the media says anymore. And just think how much they’ve lied to you in the past. People need to let that sink in and open their eyes.

The media isn’t there to inform you. They are there to sell advertising, period. They get to charge more for their ads based on the number of eyes that look at their product (paper, show, YT video, etc). You get eyes on your product by saying something people just HAVE to know more about. That’s the entire business, ads.

If you think they have an “obligation” to you or honesty, you’re sadly mistaken.
