IF elon is going to emphasize Cybertruck as a working mans truck, it needs three things:
-a bed cap that can adjust from angled to straight back to make the bed useful, and features for quick ladder/canoe carrier add on or flip up!
-a passage from the rear seat area tothe bed area allow access while moving (and quick stop camping!!!) (and from the front seat to the back...)
-front connections for snow plow/winch carrier/pusher add-ons.

The CT turns into an AWESOME SUV with that passage and the two position bed cover
My primary uses for my current pickup are picking up project materials and SNOW PLOWING.

Passthru between cabin and vault is more for people who want a truck they can use for camping. Snowplow nobody cares about here.

Hmm. Most contractors I know would suggest they need:
  • Good sized bed for hauling lumber/ gravel/ bricks/ etc.
  • Ability to add a ladder rack.
  • Secure storage for tools and building materials.
  • Ability to tow trailers
  • Lots of power for tools/ charging.
I think they have working mans truck covered quite decently.

I do love the idea of a flip up crossbar in the back so you can go from aero mode to lumber rack quickly!

ummm.... how do you know "nobody cares about a snow plow connection here"? I am here. That's my prime use of pickup in the winter. I count too...
and snow plow connection also can allow for front winch , heavy pulling in reverse... (which is super useful, by the way and much safer than towing out in forward in many situations,) heavy pusher bars, and other uses.
We are talking about connection points.... and utility.

The range, the traction, the capacity ALL work together to let CT be the mighty all purpose unitool truck, much more capable and versatile than a "regular ole" pickup. "Compelling" as Elon might assert.
Maximum utility in many situations makes CT worth the $$$, since it replaces several vehicles and does a better job than all of them combined.

LOL

This is exactly why I said ā€œHEREā€ (in the Willamette Valley) as opposed to the general statement that nobody wants a snowplow. Was not being dismissive, I just know there are a lot of places where that isnā€™t a big priority.

I would genuinely love to know how many pickups have snow plows on them. Prior to joining this forum Iā€™d have guessed it was 0.01%. After joining this forum? My estimate is way higherā€¦ maybe itā€™s a full 0.05% (1 out of every 2000 pickups).

But whatever youā€™d use for a snow plow mount is also likely useful for other stuff? Not sure about that sort of accessory
.

In retrospectā€¦ one of the hallmarks of a truck is versatility. The more jack-of-all-trades the Cybertruck is, the better.

Did you know the word ā€œtonneauxā€ is French for tuna?

I think thatā€™s why Tesla calls it the vault cover. Because they donā€™t expect a lot of people are going to use the truck to haul tuna.

You may mock me, but the actual truth about what a tonneaux means makes even less sense. Tesla calls it the vault cover because it does not actually cover the back seats. Also because nobody can spell tonneaux without using copy/ paste or spell check.

This tuna must have been delivered in the vault

ā€œTonneauā€ means ā€œbarrelā€ in French, which is what I think weā€™re talking about with pickup truck bed areas.

And I totally agree with the OP & Ogreā€™s retrospective, the more versatile, the more niche roles the cybertruck can fill, the better.

Passthrough allows more van-like use. More pallets of stuff, longer poles in the rain, more space for livestock, etc.

The same mounts that give you a snow plow also give you trail management equipment, points for winches and pulleys, accessory lights and accessible hand-tools at trail speeds or for actual use pulling, pushing, holding fast in construction sites and camp sites.

Rack attachment points are there , it is up to 3rd party suppliers to create and get a business out of it.

If there is money to be made, then it shall be.

A 1.5 ton carrying capacity. Back to 3rd parties. they can create whatever they want .. Load a yacht if it is under 1.5 tons.

Strong chassis,
1.5 ton carrying
7 or 14,000 pound towing capacity
Air suspension

I'm gunna venture and say there will be strong mounting points front and rear...

This is the criteria to build upon... seems all applications applicable within that scope

The more I think about this the more I like the idea. Right now I drive a small SUV, but with the passenger and back seats folded down I have tons of room. I can carry 8 foot long boards, washing machines and dryers, oodles of boxes. I thought a truck bed would be great replacement solution for hauling all those things, but I hadn't given much thought to combining interior space with the bed until this thread. And the camping implications! I'm a huge fan of this idea, I hope it's in the final release version.

And Crissa, the thought of having some lambs or goats ride along in the back seat/truck bed area just sounds like so much fun! I'm sure they'd make excellent road trip companions šŸ˜›

You're right there with my spouse!

She is not averse to inviting them in the house, much to my annoyance.

got it! sorry about my defensive reaction, I was indeed thinking "here on this forum."
Good question- what percent of the population lives in significantly snowy states? icE pickup trucks do not have specialized plow mounts, but their underbody frames easily accept kinda universal bracket systems sold by the plow makers to mount their plows.
The CT is different, with it's strength in its shell.
Does anyone know what its nose underbody looks like? Maybe there are structural gigacastings with potential attachment points for plow adapters? or is it mostly smooth under the front? \
A snow plow frame yoke could reach fairly far back under.
