Um no. This mug is dishwasher safe, so I'll save my elbow grease for more important things and let the automation continue to take care of the dishes. I'm sure it's fine.
The stains are where the coffee gets all the flavor

Sometimes it is hard to see metal grain direction, but SS metal always has a grain, and you must clean and buff in grain direction
Generally speaking, rolled sheets of metal will inherit a grain in the direction of travel along the rollers. But if the rollers are mirror-polished, then the sheets will be very smooth with no identifiable grain.

I've seen no grain whatsoever in the CT prototypes, other than swirl-marks from cleaning.

Rust on your SS cup

Not coffee stain

Any Homeowner knows their SS appliances will rust when cleaned with Windex (has ammonia) or any chlorinated cleaners (see SS appliance manual).

SS is croshion resistant but not corrosion proof.

SS will rust.
Hmm. I wonder if you could do some weird rust etching by masking an area, spraying it with ammonia then leaving it on. Flush it, clear the ammonia, then apply clear coat to the rusty bits.

hmm. Maybe some non structural bit.

...You do realize sinks are used as a working surface and get marks from things being set upon them, right?

-Crissa
Id hate to see your sink 😂. I use mine daily and re-grain it about once a month. Plus, I have one of those sink grates that sit on the bottom so nothing really touches the sink.

SS can rust, yes, but there are many different kinds of SS. I've carried a Swiss Army knife with me for the last 30+ years, zero rust. Chromium content affects how quickly the passivity layer reforms, etc.

LOL, I'd hate to see your blood pressure or psych bill. But to each their own.

No, my sink is a crappy composite that's worn down on the corners. You would hate it. It's horrible.

I can't imagine re-graining a sink monthly. Maybe once a decade... Have you nothing better to do? ^-^

I won't be cleaning or polishing my CT. Lose dirt and mud yes, but beyond that it is patina. If you buff out a scratch you would want to do the whole truck each time. It would look weird otherwise.

Cleaning paint is somewhat predictable with gentile soaps etc. Can you imaging the waste products going into the sewer if people are trying to maintain a shiny surface.

I hate finding out my soap isn't Jewish.
