Just wanted to throw this out there: I have access to a large array of low power lasers here in So Cal that are specifically for engraving from 3" to almost 12". How many folks do you think would be interested in paying a small premium to have something engraved by experienced operators? With enough interest I'd be open to doing much larger engravings (full body etc). Crazy?

Here's an example

Cool idea. How much would engravings cost? How visible and durable are they over time?

No idea how much we'd charge, but it's not like it uses any materials (aside from cost of the lasers, $2k-19k USD depending on size). As for durability, anything short of significant sanding or grinding would not remove it. I would consider it permanent

Might the engraving process result in rust issues?
Great question, and no. Chromium oxide (chrome rust) is MUCH faster forming than ferric oxide and is the primary reason for stainless steel being stainless.

In short, no.

They talked a little on the Munro interview with the 5 leads about this. It is a custom blend to deal with the rust better because they said normal stainless steel does rust.

That's a fantastic offer! There's likely a considerable demand for personalized engravings, especially with experienced operators handling the process. The idea of larger engravings, like full-body designs, sounds intriguing and could find a unique niche. If you're looking to expand your engraving services, you might want to consider checking out Monport Laser for its reliable and efficient laser machines. Their technology could enhance your capabilities and cater to a broader audience. Best of luck with your venture! https://monportlaser.com?sca_ref=5031521.ka374VZjm3
