Has anyone tried another manufacturer's EV charger in the bed of the truck? The Chevy charger will not start charging on either voltage in my bed. I do not show the same errors plugging a tesla mobile charger in.

Generators and specifically, EVs, that produce power are insulated from the ground, so they use what's called a 'bound neutral' where neutral and ground are tied together at the source.

This is a type of ground fault which many devices detect and may refuse to function in the condition of. This is one of the things that the Gateway fixes for the truck.

I don't know if that's the issue here; do other devices work from the outlet? Do you have a multimeter or outlet tester?

So, I took my laptop out there and plugged it into 120v. Works fine.

Took my multimeter out there, I show 120v on X-N, and Y-N, as well as 240v X-Y.

So you may be right, it may be detecting that as a ground fault.

You may try a different EVSE between the other vehicle and your truck. The vehicle charger itself might not mind, while the EVSE might be touchier. There's no way to know without trying.

Have you tried a Tesla to J1772 Adapter with your Tesla mobile charger? Here's one that gets good reviews (including a Bolt owner) and is on sale for about $17. Maybe worth a shot.

I know that I could do this, but I wasn't sure if I had an issue with the truck or that other EVs have OEM chargers that will not work on the truck (and as crissa pointed out, a generator).

I did not have the backwards (to me) J1772-NACS adapter for this. We didn't even actually "need" to do this, but I was helping a friend work on his car (replacing the active grille shutter) and we realized he had his 240V charger with him and we mutually wanted to do the test just because we could.

It does tell us something important though. If you ever plan to "rescue" another EV, you better carry your own charger and the backwards J1772 adapter, because whatever charger the owner of that vehicle may be carrying might not work
