Just want to clarify if anyone has followed this more closely (can be fun trying to aggregate all the rumors).

Is the problem with ramping up production on the 4680 solely a Tesla problem? Or is Panasonic having the same issues?

Seems they keep inferring that they will just get more batteries from Panasonic in the interim. Am I confusing that with the 2170 backup plan?

Tesla will have more problems ramping the Tesla 4680 because there are new Tesla battery patented technologies (tab-less, structural, silicon anode, etc) or cost reductions (capital equipment, material ) inside the Tesla 4680s that the Panasonic version might not have.

For example the Tesla 4680 will be made using Tesla's dry battery electrode (DBE) process which reduces capital equipment cost, lowers energy usage, reduces air pollution, and is part of total processes to increases fabrication throughput ( cannery/bottling industry type speeds - high speed continuous motion assembly).

Ok, not all 4680s are the same.

I'm sure that Tesla will license their patents to Panasonic for the batteries they will receive.

The recent 4680 teardown showed that only the anode was DBE, while the cathode was not. We should know more once the Munro cells hit the streets.
