Concept Cars That Let You Down

While we are waiting for the crazy, polarizing Cybertruck concept to actually be produced, I'm curious to know what other concept vehicles you saw that made you excited about the future but never happened or at least as shown?

For example, I remember watching this episode of Top Gear where they checked out the GM Hy-Wire concept 20 years ago in 2003. It was a hydrogen fuel cell car rather than a BEV but look at the now familiar technology (skateboard architecture, drive by wire, cameras for rear and side mirrors, large windshield, Vehicle to House power, etc.).

Seems like they had a vision of the future. I won't discuss the GM EV-1 which preceded this, but I also remember being enthused about the visually exciting 2007 Chevrolet Volt concept which looked like this:

But, we are all familiar with what was produced:

I guess the wheels, the grill, and the mirrors look.. similar. ?

it goes to show that it is not the engineering and design that is going to kill the OEM's but rather the bureaucracy and culture that stifles innovation and change.

Which concept car has let me down when it when into production?

All of them so far. The last one I remember that made it from prototype to production intact visually was the Porsche Taycan. Then Porsche priced it where they did, and I rapidly lost interest and became disappointed.

I had a 2010 golf diesel wagon with the top trim and I really liked that car. I thought it was probably the nicest car I would ever own and bought it for the mileage and because it was a "clean" diesel.

Well they lied about that and subsequently bought it back from me in 2017 with 250 k kilometers on it for about 1/2 of what I paid for it.

Used the money to buy a M3 in 2018- definitely the nicest car I will every own (other than the CT) and I will never buy another ICE car.
