Online ordering from Tesla website shows that the wait for cybertruck is 6-8 weeks , why? Are they building the CT as order shows up?

Thousands sitting on lots. Ridiculous to take that long to process order

It's probably due to the cantrails. New vehicles cannot be legally sold with pending recalls.

I would think that the $7500 EV tax credit which requires you to take delivery by 9/30/25 would have caused a large influx of orders for the AWD models among those who have been on the fence. It's just 10 weeks away and you have to take delivery by then, not just place an order by that date.
I expect the CT will see the biggest quarter ever for deliveries provided they can keep up.

I hope you are right, but I fear that if the buyers that have been holding out haven't bought yet at this same price point, that the deadline will only move a few of them. Here's hoping I'm wrong!

Here in Sacramento, I placed my order on 7/12. The website said 6-8 weeks but I got my VIN assigned in less than 1 hour. They gave me a pick up window of 7/15-7/17 which I couldn't do since the financing wasn't ready. So they do have some sitting in a lot waiting

AWD now shows no discounts unless a demo in my market. I think they sold a lot in June with the incentives. They got me off the fence.

Couple other points about all those Cybertrucks that are "sitting on lots":

1. Many of the Cybertrucks that are sitting on lots are discounted demo vehicles. If you place an order for a brand new CT, then Tesla might say that it will take 6-8 weeks for delivery. But there's a good chance that there are AWD demo vehicles in your area that also qualify for the tax credit, and which are available for immediate pickup. The demo vehicles don't show up through the order page, you have to check the Inventory page instead.

2. Many of the Cybertrucks that are sitting on lots don't qualify for the tax credit. Only one specific CT configuration, the base AWD, is eligible (technically, RWDs are also eligible, but RWD availability appears to be extremely limited at present). There is not going to be a 3Q 2025 rush for Cyberbeasts, or for AWDs with options -- those vehicles cost more than $80,000, aren't eligible for the tax credit, and won't be affected when the tax credit goes away.

So It's not crazy that deliveries of brand new, credit-eligible CTs could be delayed, even if thousands of CTs are sitting on lots. The ones on the lots may be credit-eligible, but not brand new (base AWD demos), or brand new, but not credit-eligible (CBs or AWDs with options).

I agree that this is true, however, many brand new vehicles are sitting on the lots as well. I got mine in 3d in June and build date for the car was April. Might be less with the recent incentives, but I don't believe the website when it comes to timing.

I guess Tesla could maybe have an incentive to exaggerate the delivery timing. If you order today (July 17), and delivery will take 6-8 weeks, then that means August 28 to September 11. That's not too far away from the September 30 delivery deadline, and obviously that deadline is only going to get closer. So potential customers might think: "Uh oh, I better order right away to make sure that I get my delivery before the credit expires."
