Seems like the second most basic function of a tailgate. These pics show it in that orientation.

Thanks for sharing the link.

I wonder how much weight it can hold at that angle.
I'd imagine flat cargo, thinking Home Depot run, wouldn't put much stress on it.
However, a motorcycle could be distributing a couple hundred pounds potentially.

Is the tailgate still a ramp, or did that concept die?

Pretty sure that ended up in the same shallow grave as the midgate.

Should be able to hold significant weight - that's the entry point for heavy loads, people stand on tailgates (including my fat *** and 250lbs), etc....I would have no concerns. OG Payload specs were for 3500 lbs - while that's not the tailgate spec, they're not going to make the tailgate spec 5lbs...

Even if you're putting a Gold Wing up there, your single tire weight isn't going to be much over 450#. That's the same a two workers and their lunches sitting on the tailgate. I have to think the tailgate is set to handle that, and then some.

Static weight? sure thing

driving over speed humps at 20mph, or whoops or dips in a hwy at 60mph?

you’ll be wondering how long before your two workers, their lunch, your tailgate are getting scraped off the road

And buying ~these nxt time:

I'm not a Gold wing kinda rider. I've never owned a bike that I couldn't drag a knee puck on. However, I have friends that do have those. And if you're going to move a GW, you do it on a trailer, not in a truck bed. I don't care how big the bed is, a trailer is just far easier to load/unload. And your aero difference is minimal. (not non-existent, just minimal)

there are a lot of bikes less than a GW I wouldn’t trust to be too far out on a tailgate - which ones and how far depending on what kind of driving/road conditions

I agree. Most of the Willow Springs group have trailers, maybe 50% have toy haulers. What I see in truck beds is mostly dirt bikes. I don't see an issue there...

bigger enduros, or other bikes, are in 6.5’ beds (rear tire contact patch over bed still)

tailgate supports in a 5.5’ bed are for someone who doesn’t do it often enough, or not wise (lazy?) enough, for a trailer

My Kawasaki Vulcan Vaquero is MASSIVE!
With no ramp, probably trailer it instead of loading it…
Until (?) someone makes an EV bagger.

...You don't have to leave them tucked when sleeping. I surely don't. And I'm not 6'3" like my father.

In that, we haven't seen one on any model other than the original prototype.

1. It's a lot faster making the bed when you don't have to re-tuck the sheets in.
2. You DO have to leave them tucked in when it's cold and your significant other likes to snatch the covers. My wife sure does.
3. I like to keep the heat in when it's cold out (Nebraska, here and we like it cool).

But, yeah, you don't HAVE to keep them tucked in. But I like them tucked in much better than not.

Great point. I have a Honda Rune, which weighs 888 with no bags and no accessories. It's not unreasonable to expect a pair of 250 lb guys (maybe 3 or 4) with gear sitting, standing, and working on an open tailgate.

Surprising, eh? I had to buy a 10 foot utility trailer to move my Fatboy (from Denver to California). Uhaul only had 8 footers, and they're actually a tad too short!
