Cybertruck Major Failure (Reason Still Unknown)

Ha I guess when I wrote this, I was thinking more about the truck sitting for a period of time and being able to restart but then not being able to restart after sitting for a 2nd time.

If your VIN# is part of the ribbon cable replacement recall? If so, it could be that. The ribbon cable runs along the passenger side door threshold.

My truck needs the new ribbon cable, but it's been working fine so far. Apparently, it can kink or chafe, which can fail and cause all kinds of errors.

Well good or bad...my Vin is not part of any recall. I'm on my 3rd loaner though, yay.

Anyone seen anything like this? Drove the truck to the gym, worked out, drove over to get a protein shake and came back out to multiple failures on the screen and the truck not willing to shift into gear. Got out, started a service ticket in the app, truck locked itself and became completely unresponsive.

3 days at the service center, no root cause yet. Was given a old model S loaner and told it was the worst day for the truck to be brought in haha. (Packed and understaffed) Beautiful.

This makes me really nervous as I’m in West palm beach also and I’m about to take delivery of a cybertruck with a VIN in the 51xxx range and hope these drive unit issues are fixed as I’d be dealing with the same service center that’s apparently backed up. I hope yours gets resolved soon. Please update the thread with updates as you get them.

Yea I took delivery in WPB but they sent it to Delray for service..

I'm an early vin foundation and have had this happen to both front tand rear inverters. Seems to be a known issue from what the service center told me.

Seeing that they now have a service bulletin and recall on some of them i hope they’ve got it figured out. It’s sucks to have something this catastrophic happen to your vehicle where you completely can get stranded somewhere.

The app just updated...according to the message the HV cable is being replaced to the front inverter. Is it really that simple? I'm not entirely sure how simple that means but for one wire to cause this sort of catastrophic failure seems crazy no?

Highly plausible, any loss of HVIL (High Voltage Inter-Lock) or insulation issues will result in disablement. The cable they will be replacing will require removal of the battery pack (big job) unfortunately. Hopefully this will be successful and you'll be back on the road soon.

We had the same problem immediately after tailgating. They replaced our inverter (took a full week) and no issues since then. They called today to ask exactly what we had plugged into the truck that day. (Ninja crockpot and Amazon FireTV.) Grasping at straws?

Interesting. Mine was just parked so really wondering what the cause of the failure was. Hopefully it's just this cable.

Mine was similar... but believe it is a recall... maybe just on more than they thought.
