This whole thread makes me question whom to trust, including myself šŸ˜†

Jokes apart - I can see arguments from both sides. If someone really wants to fabricate false narratives, it doesn’t take much to loosen the door and take the video. In past when people have posted videos, severe cross examination has happened on that as well, meanwhile I can also see why omitting several key information while reporting a serious issue like this one can make someone really question the plausibility of the story. After all, when we have seen court cases such as Johnny-Amber defamation trial, where stories can be fabricated in the court room, it’s no surprise that these type of anonymous posts will get heavily scrutinized, especially for a product that’s as polarizing as CT.

So, one sincere request I do have is for owners to post as much information as possible when they report a very severe issue like this. Whatever you post will be debated and contemplated for something as serious as door falling off. We live in a world where it’s hard to take things on face value. Probably one day we can have AI plugins that can be the Sherlock Holmes on these forums and attach a ā€œconfidence or authenticityā€ number based on all the information presented! šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ˜†

It’s definitely a fact that early adopters will see issues, but at the same time it’s important to see how many people are having the issues. Scale and context are very important. Given that this is the only door failure case I have heard in last 8 months, I’m going to let it slide, even if it’s a valid issue. To err is human. 1 issue out of 20K+ vehicles delivered is a very low odd. No child or adult has been injured so far because CT door flew off. I remember one of the Model Y roof flew off when it was released. No such incident happened after that. Numbers don’t lie, people knowingly or unknowingly do. CT might have early adopter issues but based on overall stats I have seen, the number is on par with most other vehicles, if not lower. No person has been fatally injured or severely harmed because of a manufacturing defect. It’ll be all over the news for several months if that happened!

Correct, it would be rightfully characterized as "gross incompetence" if a 1 year old was (1) not securely fastened in a child seat and (2) child seat not securely fastened into the vehicle.

Both of which are the parent's responsibility.

If anyone is relying on a car door to keep their child, who is in a Car Seat, safely inside the car, you're doing something drastically wrong. Please see online resources or personalized instruction.

If the window was at least partly open, that would change the airflow.

Indeed, given how the windows on Teslas tend to have to open a bit before the door can be opened, if the window was fully closed, I would be surprised by the door opening unless the glass broke.
I think OP is experiencing the PTSD of this incident, totally understood. I would be scared and/or angry as well. But it still doesn't mean i won't take Boeing planes anymore after one window/door flew off in the middle of the flight.

Yup - I just wanted a place to share this story so it doesn’t result in a tragedy for someone else who owns this truck.
Good. But all such things as this fall into the category of "Why to not buy first year production of a completely new vehicle THIRD YEAR production is far better" instead of "Cybertruck BAD".

I knew there were going to be issues with truck 3rd month production, accepted that risk and bought it - so far really no complaints. But I acknowledge there may be some to come.

OP - I mentioned the torque marks so you could point that out to Tesla as well.

This thread is wild and though I agree with basically all of what people have said this is the internet so we have to keep that in mind :)

Ah yes... the 3-time Tesla vehicle owner posting a dramatic, sensationalized story and he doesn't know how to copy any of the dashcam recordings lmao. ok, guy 🤣 Let me guess, you are going to go out to your truck next and tell us that you didn't have recording enabled?

So concerned about the safety of your child that you decided to drive at least 66 miles per hour, one handed, while you play with your phone? Couple this with the "official" NHTSA complaint, you being a shareholder, suggesting that all the vehicles should be grounded until further notice...

Yeah. Not buying your story here as the truth, whole truth, and nothing but.
Complain about the truck all you want,
But don’t bring your child into it, that’s lame.
My 2 cents

What I'm not reading here is any mention of noise. Doors with loose latching hardware will typically make a lot of rattling noise that cannot be ignored.
That’s what I was saying. But, what do I know?

We shouldn’t be vilifying people for posting their CT ownership experiences on the forum, even if the occurrence is highly uncommon. Kinda had enough of the tin foil anti-fudder crew just denying the fact that the earth is round for the sake of their gods; CT, Tesla, EM.

I like for the forum to be a place where we can get information whether it’s good or bad, and I’d like for them to feel comfortable to do so.

Most definitely. However, for every AI "Shelock Holmes" tool, there will be three AI "Moriarty" tools.

While I agree. I would like a little more provenance from the OP. First time poster with a very strange failure. There are reasons to be questioning. I am sure many of us have been on this forum, and others that have some strange things going on. Are all of them suspect? No. Are some? Yes.

When one goes into a public forum to share. It is a public place. One gets what one gets. High fives from some, and kneecapped from others.

The forum is a place where we can get info, good or bad.

But don't tell me I can't call a spade a spade! If you don't want anyone to be critical of the info posted, it would be you who wants to stick your head in the sand. I've had enough of gullible people who just believe everything anyone says, without any logical reason to do so.

The thing is... if the OP can fail to notice a loose door or failing door...

...why isn't it also obvious the person who was supposed to check that door could also fail to notice the loose door?

Like yeah, doors failing suck, and we see it failed. And it might not have opened far enough to see in a camera but freaked OP out because that is a bad situation.

On the other hand...

If the OP can fail to notice a loose door or failing door, the person who was supposed to check that door could also fail to notice the loose door.

Because both of those people are human.
