I've been kind and politely explained why you're experiencing this. Meanwhile you're name calling and having a meltdown. Time to bid you adieu friend.

Bye!

Finally someone with a brain acknowleges it's a simple fix - thank you!

Sorry for anyone I harmed while using the word "dangerous" while I assume that steering wheel button behavior was critical. And my deepest Toyota Corollances to anyone harmed by my use of the word "bug" when ackhtually it's just the menu covering the already loaded camera app.

Contact Sean Duffy at the DOT for such life threatening situations. Problem is, his head is stuck you know where, but he will get around to it.

FMVSS 111 sets the requirements for the backup camera. A driver opening a menu over the view is allowable.
S5.5.5 Deactivation. The rearview image meeting the requirements of S5.5.1 and S5.5.2 shall remain visible during the backing event until either, the driver modifies the view, or the vehicle direction selector is removed from the reverse position.

This is not a dangerous bug. If you moving in reverse and pull up a screen that covers the cameras, then you’re telling the system you don’t NEED these to reverse. If you need the cameras in a hurry, stop reversing. Your responsibility to reverse safely even with no reverse camera. Bug yes, dangerous no
Exactly.

Yup, I was just thinking, "I'll bet he has to fold them when he drives straight in and is then unfolding them as he backs out."
That's a good reason. Good reason to have them not auto-unfold as well. I didn't think of that.

I say its a bug! I hate bugs! Bug bug bug!

My grampa used to hate the bug on his VCR that ejected the tape and not his seat like his old WW2 plane eject button did. If you don't understand the equipment, anything can be a bug I reckon.

To me it's simply yet another UX failure. Of which there are plenty. Why can you get to the scheduling screen from the battery charge level screen, but not directly back again? Why must the position of everything on the top of the screen change depending on what is going on in the main area below? My favorite is in our Y, where the HomeLink point on the top of the screen jumps somewhere else when you hit Park. Or undo your seatbelt. 🤦‍♂️ Not a problem in the truck, because HomeLink is of no value in a truck...apparently... 🙄

But this sort of thing has been typical since my first S over ten years ago. UX apparently isn't a big priority for them... I gave up on them caring years ago.

Just tried this, yes it is bug - only if you pull up the menu when in reverse. This is rare scenario and a dumb thing to do if you are already in reverse. Maybe just pay attention to reversing first, complete that and then do whatever you wanted to do. Reversing blindly is dangerous, but you can’t fix stupidity.

I gotta say: I do think you’re being a bit melodramatic and overreacting to the pushback that you’re getting here, but putting that aside, “my deepest Toyota Corollances” is some of the funniest shit I’ve heard in a long time and I’m going to be stealing it!

So, thank you for that! 🤣😂🤣😂

I gotta say it is somewhat frustrating when there are so many unnecessarily varied UIs between my X, S Plaid and CB. Some of them are completely understandable but even then could be in the same place handled on the same portion of the screen etc. so yes both internally and across vehicles some of the choices are baffling. There is never a time where I don’t have to take a beat or two to reorient myself when I go between the X and any of the others.

A simple fix should be that independent of what’s going on on the binnacle on the cars that have it, I ought to be able to make the screen mirror the UI on the cars without.
