Agree…..the good part is that Elon has built a company in Tesla that listens and responds. Short true story …… late one evening on X a few months back, somehow found myself in a conversation with Elon. initially I thought it to be just a scammer trying to get my SSN and email address. But after about five minutes I realized…..it really was Elon. I asked him why he contacted out of the blue and he made some nice comment. When he found out my age he said I am going to call you Dad.For me, it
Your experience and response to the UI of FSD is a good example of how these systems have to interface to everyone in the potential audience.
As cars are made for 'everyone' to drive - including those who are 'not into cars' and 'don't enjoy driving' so there will be a ocean-wide response to how these systems work and should work.
No one is completely right or wrong. Our experience is the frame through which we operate in the world. [Some don't think they need to signal a lane change, some think other cars on the road are obstacles to navigate around.]
FSD's purpose is to aide in driving, lower the drivers burden of attention and eventually - take on the entire burden of driving.
As a minimum FSD needs to clearly communicate what it is doing, and what it's not doing so the driver knows where their responsibility lies.
I don't recall these types of discussions when Cruise Control was implemented, or automatic windshield wipers. Mainly because they have a clearly defined functional boundary.
I hope that Tesla monitors these forms and considers these experiences and impressions so FSD can be improved along with the User Experience.
These same issues are going to happen when robots arrive - I don't want them simply staring at me.
Regards
Jack
During the conversation we dicussed FSD and I said how great i thought it was, but I thought it could be improved with a simple addition. I told him when allowing people to drive my Beast to demonstrate FSD , they would get confused on how to engage it. I recommend a little FSD engage box be put onto the screen. He laughed and said great idea…infact we were thinking the same thing. ………the next version had that little box. True Story
