Hi All,

I have an order for the 59k dual AWD truck and just by happenstance in San Diego they had a dual AWD for a demo on Friday , so new that it had 16 miles on the odometer and did not even have dealer plates on it when i showed up. So I took some photos and wanted to give anyone interested my feedback.

The drive was a total of 30 minutes, as that is all i had time for but I will touch on some of the standout items.

1.) Overall impressions: Tesla knocked it out of the park on the overall design and implementation with only one item that I feel needs to be truly improved at the design/factory level. This truck is definitely worth 59k and possibly 69k, but at 69k, like other reviews, it becomes on a more use case basis to stay at 69k or jump to premium at 79k.

2.) Coil Suspension and ride comfort: In San Diego Miramar area there are plenty of poorly maintained roads. Overall the comfort was great, only slightly behind the air suspension premium but way better than my 2022 MYLR on these poor road areas. There is some slight roll and lurching but nothing i noted as being concerned about and to be honest the level of lurch going over a divot was the same amount in the premium for about the same size divot. In my opinion (which I will mainly use this truck as commuter with some camping thrown in on fire roads and such), the coil suspension was outstanding.

3.) Interior seats and fabric: The seats are softer at 16 miles on the odometer than a premium demo at 4500 miles. They still provided good support as well. basically textile in the middle of the seat with the vegan leather as a trim. The pillars I thought were better than the premium material. It is a fine "mesh" style and looks and feels great (to me anyways) and does not droop anywhere. Black in color. the dash area is fine and fits in the same color scheme of the truck. Overall the fabric is great and while the premium was nice to have ventilated seats, i have not had ventilation seats for quite awhile, i do not need them. More plastic and such around the interior but it does not detract from the overall experience.

Here are some pics of the interior and center console.

4:) Exterior: What you would expect for a cybertruck. The 18 inch wheels kind of look a little awkward sometimes but actually were great in usage.

5.) Audio system: I am no audiophile. I just like to be able to hear the music or podcast with clear voices and reasonable volume. In the dual AWD the speaker system is the one thing that absolutely needs to be fixed imo. The audio is clear, distortion free but is very flat, no bass whatsoever. I will say i did not play with the equializer at all but when i compared it to the premium, the premium was just richer and with appropriate level of sub/bass for what was playing. If Tesla added back their sub or if you add an aftermarket sub/bass it would be much better. as it is, imo it is just adequate. The designer who said it was as good as the Model Y (assuming Juniper, unknown trim level), i believe the model y owners get screwed if this is what they get. My 2022 MYLR sounds much better and the only issue i have is cabin noise.

6.) Cabin Noise: Quieter than the premium. At 50-60 mph, while there is background noise, it is very muted, more so than the premium which had a constant "i am on a airliner at 40k feet kind of background hum/noise" the entire time. I think it mainly comes down to the 18 inch tires, weight and rolling resistance being less than the 20 inch tires. I had the volume set to 60% for pop / podcast where I would be at 85-90% in my MYLR.

7.) Drive quality: It is great, felt very nimble, took bumps easy enough. Essentially what you would expect from any cybertruck trim.

8.) Upgrades: In one of the pics, i show my ipad mini sitting on the console. this is to get an idea of my own custom mount and if a tablet of that size would interfere with the front passengers trying to hand stuff to the rear people (parents giving kids food or whatever). Honestly if Tesla was to offer a retrofit of their screen, I would pay the ~2k to get it added (i have some simple and modification ideas on the center console to make that work). I know how I can get the underbed storage system installed based on all of the parts I have identified that are and are not part of the smuggler locker parts lists. Honestly the only thing I would definitely upgrade is the audio system. it needs to be better. everything else i thought that would be a higher priority is now below that audio system.

Finale: I was definitely surprised with how well the overall experience was with the truck. And to be honest, the very next day I test drove the premium trim (first premium trim experience but I have tested beasts 3 times before the premium) it did not impress me whatsoever, I felt it was just meh at best. That test drive confirmed that i liked the dual better than the premium. The real test is to test drive the dual again when I get close to my delivery window and see if it still holds the same excitement level or if the excitement was more due to the discovery of a dual available to be seen/driven.

I am a Feb 21st, 2nd day 59k order, and my delivery window this week went from August 2026 to January 2027, no changes to the configuration, so if that holds in January or shifts even further to the right by the end of this year, that will give me a good test on the excitement level but infuriate me that i would have to wait into the spring of 2027 without any good explanation of 1 year later from order date and 7-10 months after deliveries started. hahaha

Hope this was helpful and happy to answer any questions.

I know how I can get the underbed storage system installed based on all of the parts I have identified …
I read somewhere that this cannot be installed as the underbed frame is different on the dual motor to save money. Check before ordering parts.

There is a crossbar that is missing in the dual that is part of the rear frame parts list but is there in the premium and above. This bar is what the tub bolts into for support.

The dual motor AWD looks great! I like that interior more than my premium AWD.

I fully agree with your test drive comments. I did two 1.5 hour Premium test drives previously to taking delivery of our SAWD.

The SAWD beats the Premium is seat comfort, ride quality and quietness. I've set mine to "Relaxed" and "Chill" and it's just right for my ride and smooth acceleration preferences.

The only things I miss from the Premium trim:
-The handy smugglers storage bay in the bed
-Dedicated subwoofers for the sound system

After owning mine for a month I have concluded that the SAWD trim was a smokin' hot deal at $59k. Tesla was testing price elasticity of demand (PED) during the short 10-days in February and they quickly learned that the new pricing was the sweet spot. Many analysts agree that Tesla probably took in 18k orders during that brief time period.

I have been driving a Premium for the last week since my SAWD is at the SC for a dash trim replacement event.
Half the guys at work didn’t even realize I was driving a Premium. The only thing I miss just a little bit between the SAWD and the Premium is the sound. The $59K is a definitely a GREAT deal. No doubt about it.

Like I said, I really did enjoy the travel and I also noticed or validated whatever you wanna call it at 74%. It was at 239 miles which equates to approximately 322 miles max range at 100% so basically you can kind of look at it at least when the truck is new of about 80 miles per 25% on the battery so pretty good deal. The premium was almost on par with that with the 20 inch wheels so but I was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. I really can’t wait to get mine and see what happens.

With time, I wonder if the comparison holds for stuff like coil suspension and seats comfort. Air suspension is the same new or old. Coil degrades. Seats deteriorate. Not ventilated is less. Speakers without bass is a deal breaker.

having said that, I’m interested in the option for coil suspension if costs is right. With air, it’s by far the most comfy Tesla.

I wonder if your delay to Jan 2027 is due to that auto supplier withholding equipment / supplies to Tesla….based on the lawsuit Tesla filed, I’d guess that’s the reason for the delay. Sucks, but the truck is worth the wait!

I had not heard about that. I have no idea at this point and that is okay. The great value will wait with me plus it works with my financial plans. I know there can and will be arguments about maintenance costs, replacements, which breaks sooner, etc. at the end I think it does not matter much as we all will have to pay it if u keep the truck greater than 3 years. I know I will be getting an extended warranty as both warranties will be used up within 5 years as I drive up to 30,000 miles a year either aftermarket or if Tesla ever adds their ESA like my MYLR. Just need to enjoy it while I/we can
