With previous models, Tesla has been known to first sell the most expensive versions to help make back some of the cost that it took to get the vehicle into production...

It's different with the Foundation AWD series vs. the Foundation Cyber Beast series over the last few months. The AWD trucks are much more plentiful and the Beasts just seem to be starting to roll out in some quantity. Did I miss something about why that is? Why wouldn't the Beast trucks be made first? Is there a parts shortage or some other reason why they started with the AWD trucks first and are making many more of those?

Waiting for my Beast :)

Why do you say this? The Model 3 started with the RWD LR vehicle first, then about a year later started the Performance version.

Yes, I bought both of those (Dec. 2017 and Aug. 2018). The first Model 3's were the fully loaded models that they were selling at the time (LR, premium interior, etc.). They didn't announce the Performance version until almost a year after the earlier LR models started to roll out.

Using your logic, Tesla would just be selling the AWD trucks now without announcing the Beast and then later this year or early next year would anounce and start selling the Beast (which, of course, clearly they're not doing). Both models are available to order and configure, and for some reason, the more expensive Beast models are taking longer. That's the gist of my question...

Delivery estimate definitely was the final deciding factor in choosing AWD.

Had the beast estimate been substantially shorter I would have found a way to justify the cost.

I was worried that I would be waiting forever for the Beast. Like you I bet that the top of the line version would come first. Alas that was not the case. I heard of a window on Twitter where for a day or two you could double down on your early order (4400). Naturally I jumped. 5 months later I got the call. If you want the Beast I would hold strong, watch for any word where you could double down ( early investor was another window). I think the ramp is going strong. I saw 3 other Cybertrucks on my way to work today.. Before you know it they will be everywhere!

That's the burning question that I have had this whole year and nobody seems to know the answer as to why Tesla has given priority to the AWD over the CyberBeast. Back in January when I placed my order for the Cyberbeast, I messaged Sawyer Merritt on X and asked him, since he knows a lot about the inner working of Tesla, and he said he thinks that the AWD might be more profitable than the Cyberbeast during the early ramp up stages which should change as the ramp gets more cost efficient. That sounded like a plausible reason but only Tesla knows for sure.

That makes the most sense…. The profitability delta

toying with a switch to AWD from Beast…

Another thing to consider is that if you have 100 motors to use, you could make 50 AWD CTs and only 33 CyberBeasts. Maybe in-aggregate there is more profit in selling more AWDs rather than the higher priced but fewer CyberBeasts.

I thought the front and rear motors were different types...

I recall someone saying the rear casting is different and they may have trouble making them.
