Please don't get political, just speculations on future. Not trying to debate the Good vs Bad in all this.... or... comments like "If you need the EV credit, you shouldn't be buying.. etc."
I just got email to reserve my foundation series. My main reservation on ordering a foundation series is to get the EV credit with all wheel drive when it GA's and get 7500. I can afford both, but I like to get good value out of all my purchases. I don't necessarily want to pay for the benefit I won't use, etc.

Then, I got into the rabbit hole of thinking through this further...
IF Trump wins the next election, he may gut the EV tax credit... or can he? (Please no debate on whether this is good or bad or Good trump vs bad trump etc.)
Then, there maybe no point of waiting for the non foundation since price difference will be only $20k (99990-79990) vs $27.5k (20k + 7.5k ev credit)

I guess my question is two fold.
If any lawyers on this forum can inform me of legality around Trump trying to get rid of the EV credit. (Can he wave a magic wand and shut this off right away? [assumption is he would try to from his track record?])
Is Foundation series worth it for 20k vs 27.5k? Maybe a breakdown of 20k minus value of everything included = the real premium of the foundation series.

Thanks!

Resurfacing this to see if anyone has expertise on the “ev mandate on day 1” statement to imply credit vs what Farzad is talking about.

I have been told by employees at SCs that the AWD and Beast won't ever qualify for the Federal Tax credit of 7500$.

Sometimes SC employees are pretty under-informed, so I could have been given bad information. But Tesla adjusts prices a lot. I don't think the non-FS trucks are going to be 100k (Beast) and 80k (AWD) respectively when FS ends.

I have no idea what the next administration will or can do from a legal perspective. So anything I would write will just be speculation. I would guess that it'd be tough for the next administration to make changes but not impossible.

I will also offer my opinion on if FS is worth it or not. For me, it is. This is because I'm a big believer in FSD and won't have a car without it, ever again. Also the remaining options (like 2 way enegery transfer) help me get to my enegery independence goals. By my math I'm paying 4-5k to jump to the front of a line that I am pretty much in the back of (I ordered in August of '22). So for those reasons it's "worth it" for me.

I think you're making good choices by analyzing the situation and trying to do some scenario planning. Figuring out What Ifs for the EV Federal Tax credit isn't easy and is probably coming down to speculation, even on lawyers parts. I hope something I wrote is helpful in some way and good luck with your decision!

If the tax credit goes away the price of the truck will go up. It’s only just below the 80k for the tax incentive and the proof that people are willing to pay more is evident in the fact the even the more expensive FS is already the best selling EV truck for 2024. It will probably be an 85-90k truck for the AWD and the entry level rear wheel, when released, will be the 79-80k variant.

Orange man aside, there is only one way to the credit: you have to register the car in a business. It’s been discussed at length on this forum.
