If you charge at home 70% of the time is free supercharge worth it?
Anyone done the numbers?

If we keep the Cyberbeast for 200k+ miles, that’s about $40–50k in charging savings - basically back to the original $70k price in 2019. The question is, would we need to spend another $25k+ on a battery replacement by then, and would free charging still carry over?

Here we are again…just you and me awake again. lol
So our 2016 model x p90D with free supercharging was in that very situation and was still dead reliable with pretty solid range degradation numbers. Would have kept driving it if Tesla hadn’t been hurting for sales and offered to let us transfer the free supercharging to a 2024 model x.
Now we have two free SC cars (the x and the CT) and the savings are much more substantial than anyone admits.

PSA: I ran the numbers for my 2017 MS with a lifetime efficiency of 306 Wh/mi with 136k miles. It’s taken me about 8 years to rack up about $14k in Tesla Supercharging costs. (Supercharging about 95% of the time because it’s included in the purchase of the car.)
And yes, the free supercharging stays with that vehicle/owner not the battery.

That sounds about right. When we first bought these cars though, you could charge for free just about anywhere and the cost of supercharging was low.
There are way more EV’s now and way more people at charging stations and also way more people charging at home. That trend hasn’t shown any signs of slowing either.
That makes this a nonlinear process.
I personally don’t believe that the people who make money selling petrochemical energy are just going to take it on the chin and move on.
Those same people and perhaps others too will still find ways to make money selling energy off the backs off energy consumers and that means the price of electric energy will go up.
How much of a hockey stick that will be remains to be seen, but any arrangement that protects you from that rate of change over time (including solar which is expensive to acquire) is potentially a very beneficial one.

See all those zeros? Hahaha, for my situation it sure is! But I charge maybe 1% at home. Contrast the about $16 shown in the photo for a single charge: that was my Model Y that my kid drove to Moab to meet the rest of our family for the Moab Music Festival. Free Supercharging doesn’t care if your Cybertruck is decked out with a rack, roof top tent, a spare tire, camping gear, food and water, or if you are using that free electricity for fridges, induction stoves, or whatnot.

Thank you, Elon, for paying for my family’s trips!

Not sure if worth it or not since I am a Tesla virgin, but it was a “must-have” when shopping for CT.

In MA electricity at home is .37 / kw basically the same or more than Supercharging around here...so yes it is in MA.

If you had .07 kw off peak you might not care so much.

Same here - .47 kwh here at home and only 3 miles to a supercharger.
Free SC is a $400 month lifetime gift in my situation.

Great point to consider in the equation. The cost of charging at home is not the same across the nation.
In my equation supercharging is roughly $0.34/kw and home charging is roughly $0.16/kw. (Off peak supercharging is currently around $0.17/kw locally.)

At this point, the only free lifetime supercharging I see is via Luxe on Cyberbeast. So it's AWD +$20k to Beast + $15k for Lux - $1k premium connectivity = $34k cost plus tax, $26k if you were getting FSD anyway, back to $34k if you qualify for the tax credit.

That's a lot of charging. Our 15k miles of driving has only used $460 of supercharging and we wouldn't have Supercharged instead of home charging.
