I recently had my Cybertruck tinted, and I’m very disappointed with the results. Unfortunately, my usual window tinter is no longer available, so I shopped around and found a place that had several Cybertrucks on site. I assumed they would have experience. The other windows are not perfect but somewhat acceptable. However, the front windshield turned out horribly.

The tinter and owner, located in Vista, CA, told me there’s a mysterious black substance on the front window that affects about one in every fifteen trucks, and I happened to be one of the unlucky ones. They claimed this substance cannot be removed without potentially damaging the windshield. Despite knowing this, they proceeded with the tint job without informing me, resulting in a front windshield that looks like a constellation of stars.

I’ve contacted Tesla about this black goo and am awaiting their response. I’m frustrated that the tint shop didn’t notify me before continuing with the job, knowing it would turn out poorly. I want a quality tint job done on my truck. Has anyone else experienced something like this? I’m not planning to keep this tint and will have it redone. I'm unsure if I should give this company a chance to fix it, though I might consider it. For context, I also have a Raptor with tinted windows, and all the windows combined dont have as many air bubbles as even the smallest side window on my Cybertruck.

After The tint is removed, that should come off with a razor blade followed by glass polish

This ⬆ ⬆ sounds quite sketch. "Mysterious black substance" was in a scary movie I saw the other day. :)

Man that’s a terrible job. Anyone who would allow you to pick your truck up in that condition shouldn’t be in business. I agree that they should have called you and allowed you to decide if you wanted it with the black substance.

My first tint company tried to do the front windshield and said it wasn’t perfect so they removed it and told me they’d redo it, no extra charge. They did all the side windows which were absolutely perfect.

To me, anyone who tints and allows bubbles in their work to reach customers has no pride in workmanship IMO.

Never heard of that stuff from the factory on the windshield or this 1 in 15 claim. Mine was tinted with no issue. Seems more like a rookie shit tint job, than a truck problem.

sounds like an installer blaming the factory for something the installer should have cleaned up.

Yeah, I just don’t know why I wasn’t contacted prior to them putting on the tint. They basically tied my hands once they put the tint on.

I totally agree. It’s a half assed job. They did document it with photos prior to tinting it, but still cannot believe they didn’t contact me first. They are claiming that they are not able to remove it due to possibly permanently damaging the windshield. That sounds like a cop out to me they just don’t want to redo it. They are saying they will redo it, but I’m not sure if I want them to do it now that I’ve lost my confidence and their abilities.

I don’t blame you for not trusting them at this point especially since their other work was sub par.

I don’t understand how they would possibly damage the windshield by removing it? Razor blades have been used on glass forever without damaging it. I agree it sounds like a cop out.

Looks like windshield adhesive overspray/slop from the factory.

But, they should have cleaned it up. Razor some soft solvent would have done the job.

Yes, razor blades have been used. Remove many things from glass. I have own several car washes and when I had detailers on site we used razor blades on glass all the time. We have removed paint that was directly sprayed on the window and dried for several months and removed all of it without any damage. They had mentioned that there is some type of coating on the inside of Tesla glass that could be permanently damaged, but I have not yet been able to corroborate that statement. Originally, I was told that this black substance was in the laminate and COULD NOT be removed, the laminate is sandwiched between two pieces of glass and would not create air bubbled in the tint. The fails statement was not a great start to resolving this issue.

I would have liked to try to clean it up myself and see how hard it is to get off but with the tint on there they literally tied my hands.

Exactly. No one wants to take responsibility for their own actions anymore, always trying to blame someone else.

What I don't understand is if they claim they can't remove the black stuff without damaging the glass, then why are they telling you they can re-do it? It's like admitting their original blame game was a lie.

They probably expected to get a participation trophy for trying and failing!

So they are trying to say that this 'black stuff' was there, that they saw it and that it's actually in between the layers of glass? Sorry, but I find that hard to believe... I would have thought that if there was black goo on your windshield then YOU would have seen it before they did!

Oh, and you do know that in most places in CA you're not really allowed to tint your front windshield at all... I put on a crystalline 'tint' (90%) on mine just to cut the UV and Infrared and it is just fine... I think the police look more at the SIDE windows anyway... Too hard for them to test a windshield with their little pocket detectors, but as long as it's lighter than the side windows I think I am fine...

But I would take it back and have them redo it... If they say no, that they can't without the same results, then I would consider finding ANOTHER shop to do that window and if/when it comes out clean send the bill to the other place...

I and has the tint taken off and took the truck to Tesla and they easily took a razor blade, I only took them 30 min with a razor blade. How pathetic this tint place was not able or willing to put a little effort to remove the black dots. This is a common problem I assume here in California. Nobody wants yo take responsibility for there action and most workers do the bare minimum. This think place is still sending out trucks with doors on them and they know how to remove them. Stay away from these tinters. Don’t assume because they have a cybertruck they know what they are doing.
