interpreting gravel roads is truly next-level stuff. I took a short video this morning of exactly that, it's impressive if you stop to think about it.

On Wednesday I let FSD drive us 8 miles on a steep, twisty one lane dirt road in the mountains. It hustled along really well, apexing the corners much as I would have done. I'm downloading the latest version of FSD right now, this was on the old version.

Turn signal starts WAY too early. Makes people think I'm turning at an earlier opportunity - like an entire block early. This is potentially an issue. If someone is turning right onto the road I am on, they may assume I am turning right and go. This would put us in a dangerous position.
Mine has been signaling too early as well, but it doesn't bother me much because I've seen how quickly it reacts if someone pulls in front of me.

Drove 250 miles tonight from Cincinnati south to a lake in Tennessee. The FSD update pops up about 2 hours before we left and the timing worked well so I installed it.

Overall I was reasonably pleased with 13.2.8 despite occasional lapses. I had driven this same route in February so I was anxious to compare the new FSD.

Once off the highway it is now dark and it gets rural fast and cell coverage is gone in about 1.5 miles. The next 20 miles is switchbacks and breathtaking gorgeous views with sheer rock faces as you pace a large stream. In February I allowed FSD a free rein and it was adequate but on several tight turns / switchbacks it crossed fully into the oncoming traffic lane. Perhaps not dissimilar to what any drive may do with no oncoming traffic but honesty it wasn’t ideal and I was disappointed. Tonight on 13.2.9 I again allowed it to completely drive. Vastly better and not once did I depart from my lane and cross the double yellow lines. I noticed that speed around the turns was well under the posted speed limit which was fine actually.

On a later stage of the drive the edge lines do not exist nor is there any center line. The canopy of the forest covers you entirely and again there is no connectivity. For added fun there is no runoff area at all and an inch off of the pavement presents a drop off nearly straight down 20-30 feet as the proximity of the lake is increasing and elevations correspondingly reflect that fact. Two crossings over the centerline on tight turns but not bad at all.

Lastly I was fortunate to be driving in FSD and therefore more slowly when a very large deer steps into the path of the car. I would have hit her too if I was driving. It was a solid hit and the deer didn’t go under our tires but did go under the truck. Once we arrived at our destination I assessed the truck fearing frunk damage. Fortunately there was no damage whatsoever. I abhor hitting animals and have never hit a deer. This was a large doe and the impact was solid. Fortunately the Cybertruck protected us. Sadly I’m sure the deer didn’t fare as well.
Glad you’re safe. Rip sweet doe

Whole Mars is full of crap. He's Tesla's marketing arm. He's said that FSD was 100% complete for the last 2 years and used a cheating device, editing, and route selections to show "how good" it was.
You’re not wrong. ?

This was FSD 13.2.8 at a one-way-at-a-time tunnel. There is barely 10” on either side of the Cybertruck when making the turn into the tunnel. Crazy how well it managed. (Almost as crazy as the drunk engineers who designed this pathway. )

Half of this stuff means nothing to the average person…. So uhmm, why mention it?

4.2 x data scaling? Photon on control latency?

Which one of these will keep FullSelf Driving from running my rear tire into the curb during left turns?!!! Also keep off the left line?? Fix those immediately please!!!
The left turns are the main reason I don't use FSD unless on a trip or in freeway traffic. They are awful and seemingly the most likely problem to damage the vehicle.

Geez, a lot of horror stories here… guess I am sticking with the December 2024 update for quite a while longer.

Makes the old windshield wiper issue I am still dealing with seem insignificant.

Took it for a spin yesterday for lunch. Here is the video. Still kind of hugs the left. Overall mixed feelings.

At least from my view, it was excellent!! Only exceptions are the turn on red and the weird parking lot swerve left.

Pot hole ?️
That part of the road has these holes that line up perfectly with the wheels of the CT when on FSD. As a human, I shift off a bit to one side.

RELEASE NOTES

FSD (Supervised) v13 upgrades every part of the end-to-end driving network.

Includes:
  • 36 Hz, full-resolution Al4 video inputs
  • Native Al4 inputs and neural network architectures
  • 4.2x data scaling
  • 5x training compute scaling (enabled by the Cortex cluster)
  • Reduced photon-to-control latency by 2x
  • Speed Profiles on both City Streets and Highways
  • Improved reward predictions for collision avoidance
  • Dynamic routing around road closures, which
displays them along an affected route when they are detected by the fleet

Upcoming Improvements:
  • 3x model size scaling
  • 3x model context length scaling
  • Integrated unpark, reverse, and park capabilities
  • Audio inputs for better handling of emergency vehicles
  • Improved reward predictions for navigation Improvements to false braking and slower driving in
    parking lots
  • Redesigned controller for smoother, more accurate tracking
  • Support for destination options including pulling over, parking in a spot, driveway, or garage
  • Efficient representation of maps and navigation inputs
  • Improved camera cleaning and handling of camera occlusions

I’m guessing with AI programming, no one really fully knows how the software was changed. That’s why the release notes lack practical information. My initial impression of driving with this release is no obvious improvement, possibly worse performance. It seemed to improve after several miles, but started out not slowing for traffic ahead soon enough, following too close and caused me to break to avoid a collision when the car I was following entered a left hand turn lane but had to stop before fully exiting my lane. This happened 2 times in short succession.

Thank you for the video. In it you appear to change from chill fsd mode to hurry via the steering wheel controls and not the touchscreen menu. I didn’t know this was possible. Would you please tell me how you did it?

thanks

Oh sure…
Just like you change songs with the left side scroll wheel on the steering, you use the right scroll wheel to toggle (left or right) to go from Chill <-> Standard <-> Hurry by pushing it right or left while autopilot is engaged.

Of course pressing the right scroll wheel will engage/disengage autopilot. Brake will also disengage autopilot.

finally scrolling the right scroll wheel up or down will increase or decrease the ceiling autopilot speed while autopilot is active. The AI still determines the best speed to go up to that ceiling speed.

hope this is useful
Cheers
A

I Love my CT but my 2019 Ford F150 is so much easier to park with its birds eye cameras.
