But it takes '5' strikes in two weeks to get a time out?

Exactly this, most people aren't nearly as good of a driver as they think they are. They incorrectly correlate luck with skill when the reality is they simply haven't been faced with a significant event while they were driving distracted.

Being able to drive my '80 5-speed Audi 4000 with a phone on my shoulder, a Coke in my left hand, McD cheeseburger in my right, shifting with my elbow, steering with my left knee and clutching with my right foot was undoubtedly an impressive feat of skill, but it was purely luck that kept me out an accident. I'd have been entirely incapable of dealing with any unexpected event.

Bought our CyberTruck on 30 September 2024 and installed FSD as soon as it was available. FSD was recently put in JAIL for one week for the first time ever. I believe it was due to the “Apply Slight Force To The Steering Wheel” messages and me applying to much force to the steering wheel on numerous occasions and FSD turning off. Before FSD was put in jail and when the “Apply Slight Force To The Steering Wheel” message would appear, we would have to stop/park, and both get out of the CT and get back in the CT to continue our trip with FSD. This was quite annoying as it was. But turning off FSD for one week is insane. How about one day instead of a week if we have to be penalized at all? Just having FSD turning off until the next park/drive should be enough of a penalty.

While FSD was in jail this week my 80-year-old wife fell and I had to take her to the Hospital for Xray/CT scans to be evaluated for injury. I couldn’t use FSD to drive us to the Hospital. We are using and relying on FSD more than ever and I did not appreciate the one week in jail penalty or the fact that I paid for LIFETIME FSD when we purchased a Foundation Series CT. Didn’t know that it came with one-week penalties.

We love our CT and feel truly blessed to own it at this stage in our lives.

Hoping that Tesla follows the forum and gets the message.

Also, would appreciate not getting negative feedback on using FSD. Just wanted to express my opinion.
FSD Jail? Really? Have you ever spent the night in jail?

Lots of misconceptions by the OP:

1. Yanking the steering wheel so hard that you turn the wheels and disengage FSD doesn't count as a strike. Just grab the wheel and push toward the center just hard enough to 'slow down' the steering wheel movements. No need to 'yank' the steering wheel and make the car swerve. Think of your hand as a one sided brake caliper instead of trying to 'turn' the steering wheel back and forth.
2. If you get a 'Strike", you don't have to physically get out of the Tesla. You just need to put it into Park for a second and then put it back into 'D' and go.
3. One 'Strike' doesn't take away FSD for one week. You need FIVE strikes!

But there are different levels of punishment. There’s a warning where you lose it for the rest of the drive and for that one you can just put it in park and restart the drive. There’s a level above that in between lockout where just stopping and putting it in will not reset it.

You have to end that drive and exit the vehicle. And I do believe it’s because you’ve had multiple warnings on the same drive. Not just one where you go from not paying attention, to ignoring the warning, to being kicked off. That type of punishment can be cleared by the procedure that you mentioned. The other cannot.

I wasn't aware of a more 'severe' reset. I've only had to put it in "P" (with my 3 and X). I don't recall if I've ever had to do it twice in one drive where it made me get out of the car. Interesting.

Let’s see here. I can’t change radio stations w FSD as i take my eyes off the road for too long. So choices are pulling over to the side of the road or turning FSD off till I get a station I want Both are way more dangerous than having eyes off the road for 15-20 seconds w FSD on. Hmm. Seems Tesla is pushing us to a bad choice.
Voice command is great

I know from personal experience, only because of v13 though. As everyone has said though, the system is a good teacher. It seems to understand rewards and punishment better than most parents.

I figured out pretty quick that I can’t do that if I want to have my car drive itself. And I DO want to have my car drive itself!

One week is so you can figure out and think. Hey I might be using this incorrectly. Now is the time to figure out. Over time the strikes will remove, and you can start again.

Safety has to come first, or the senator from Massachustes comes for our FSD. Ed Markey will hold hearings, and take my roadtrip fun away because of people that won't take the time. People already know how to drive. This is a privlage to be had. If one doesn't understand. They need to learn how to use correctly.

Sorry to hear about wife. Yet not relevant in this case.
Where did you get the notion that using a feature you already paid for is a privilege?.

Ownership is absolute after a purchase.

That's the reason why Tesla was unable to go after those who sold their CT despite their resale or $50k penalty restrictions.

The blue flashing screen is not sufficient to be noticeable, there should be noise and steering vibrations BEFORE showing the red steering wheel going to jail screen.

Very often, especially during bad weather or heavy traffic,
I don't keep my eyes away from the road and don't get chance to look at the screen display,
and miss the blue flashing warning.

Just for the record, it is you being put in FSD jail not FSD, not that it changes anything.
