I’ve had my Beast for several months but I’m new to FSD. Is there a tutorial on FSD anywhere? The first time I tried it was spooky so I wondered if you can change how aggressively it performs? I was in a Model S with a friend & he had three levels.

Push right scroll wheel, look at road, be prepared to take over if FSD does something bad, report the issue to Tesla from the automatic voice prompt.

That's really it.

I guess it's good to know some limitations. FSD hasn't been programmed for school zones, school busses, the results of emergency vehicles, speed bumps, and rail road tracks are mixed. Be vigilant.

This is 100% true! I've had to take it out of FSD with every school zone I've come across.

*It also has issues with speed signs, worse than standard. It completely missed a 35 MPH sign it normally sees.

*Also it doesn't understand "End of speed zone" signs and just pulls the speed off of them.

*It doesn't understand split road/toll/express road signs. Regular lanes signs are on the right hand side of the road 60 MPH for example and it picks up 70 MPH signs for the toll/express roads on the left hand side. So it is fighting between 60MPH and 70MPH.

*Similarly with states that have 'Minimum Speed' signs as well as speed limit signs it tends to just pick up both as speed signs.

FSD allows a lot more speed override scenarios than AP does. Getting the correct speed is a pretty tough nut to crack.

You can instruct the FSD to do things too. For example, while FSD is engaged, if you want to change lanes, put on your blinker and it will change to that lane when it thinks it's safe to do so. Also, if you are not going the full speed because, for example, a car moved out of your lane, if you press the accelerator momentarily, the FSD will increase up to the speed you have set or whatever it deems safe. Two off the top of my head, maybe there are others.

Any tips for the voice recording when disengaging FSD?

It appears that the different aggressiveness levels isn't available in the truck. I'm not sure if they removed it or overlooked it.
They really didn't make a huge difference anyway.

Recommendations for learning FSD.

  • First start on lesser traveled road with few people around you. That allows you to not worry about what other cars do and just focus on what the vehicle can do.
  • Do some simple routes, with maybe only a few turns.
  • Don't try to go through the center of town to begin with.
  • It will take time for you to learn / trust FSD.
  • Don't assume that FSD drives the way you would. Assume that it's a NYC cab driver crossed with a brand-new teenage driver.
  • It will startle/scare you to begin with. That's a trust thing.
  • Odds are that it isn't doing the wrong thing, you are just expecting it to.
  • Turn auto speed control off and roll the speed down to begin with.
  • Again, it will startle/scare you and you will swear that it is about to kill you. It isn't.

Just say what you want if you think that it is an unusual situation. Be concise and short, there is a time limit.
The option has been there for a few years and odds are that there have already been 10,000+, maybe 100,000+ reports about the same thing.

The only signs that I believe that it reads are white speed limit signs, for which it reads the numbers.

It doesn't read any other sign, but the yellow caution sign or lights normally slow the vehicle down.

If it reads the sign, it shows the sign in the visualizations. The only things you will ever see are speed limits at this time.

Absolutely. Speak clearly and keep it as simple as possible.

"Too fast over railroad crossing" was one I have repeated quite a lot.
