I do not know and that is why I didn't reply. The Cybertruck was one of the first HW4 vehicles and it came out in December of 2023. I suspect that the HW4 Model S/X came out later in 2024. We got our new Model Y in June and it is a 2026 model year, so I suspect the 2024 Model S/X would be 2025 model year. Just a guess though.
Our x is early 2024 and has HW4.

Right, that is what I was saying but I should have added a comma: "later, in 2024". As in not 2023.
Got it. I was basically just relaying what I got from googles AI which could be very inaccurate. You know, in an effort to be helpful. Never owned an S.

Have any of you guys investigated the cost of a HW4 retrofit in one of your cars?
I’m impressed enough with 14 personally I think it would be a pretty compelling reason.

HW4 retrofits don’t exist yet

We had FSD on our 2022 Model Y so we were entitled to an upgrade to HW4 (when they become available) but I figured who knows when that will be, and there will be inevitable issues with the upgrade when it happens, so when Tesla offered to let us transfer our FSD to a HW4 vehicle I convinced the wife to pull the trigger and get the newer car.

So if I buy a y with hw3 that’s entitled to a hw4 upgrade?

ā€œCould push this weekendā€ā€¦
Should we expect a new thread like this every weekend? Or, every new day? Haha

Grok says it’s between $1000-$1500 to do that to either a hw3 y or model 3. Also says either upgrade will be done for free at any Tesla SC if you own FSD.
Since grok has been errr…less than truthful with me, can I buy let’s say a 2018 model 3 with FSD and get hardware 4 and FSD 14 from Tesla?
And if that’s true, why can’t our friend with the model s above get the same assuming he owns FSD?

Sure all vehicles with FSD will eventually get actual FSD, but we don't know when that will be.

They said they wanted to solve autonomy first, then they would see what they could do with HW3 and if they couldn't provide unsupervised FSD, they would upgrade at no cost. That's likely a long ways out.

Currently, HW3 has a V13-lite in 12.6.4 and is said to get a V14-lite in Q2 next year, likely still on a V12 code base.
