We pay $0.08 for juice power, day in, day out, all week long.

For the cost of 1.5 gallons of gas locally, I could fill up my Model Y from 0% to 100% and drive ~240 miles (more without the bike rack).

So 160 miles per gallon of gas cash equivalent.

I think it’s simpler to just look at cost per mile to fuel the vehicle. For example:

For my Model Y @ Home $0.08/ kWh
$0.025/ mile on power ($0.02 without bikes)

Supercharger at $0.35
$0.115/ mile ($0.08 without bikes)

For my Subaru Outback @ 27MPG at $4.50/ gallon (local current)
$0.17/ mile on gas (plus oil and other recurring expenses)

For my Subaru Outback @ 27MPG at $5.50/ gallon (local current)
$0.20/ mile on gas (plus oil and other recurring expenses)

Wowzers... that's REALLY high. Even at my peek rate in hot Atlanta GA, my cost is only 13.5¢/kwh. Totally free between 12-6am on their EV charging rate plan. What city are you in that charges that high of a rate on electricity??
<- Santa Cruz.

We don't have alot of local generation yet, and we have environmental difficulties with transmission lines (namely flammable forests that are hundreds of feet tall in steep mountains).

But our grid is very close to being entirely renewable,
https://3cenergy.org/understanding-clean-energy/ and the largest battery pack in North America is here https://www.nsenergybusiness.com/projects/moss-landing/ ...correction, largest in the world. PG&E, which has applied for rate hikes again this year, supplies alot of our energy. But the first time, our rates won't go up when PG&E's do.

They're planning a big offshore wind project and some local solar-energy swaps (where businesses rent out their roofs so others can buy the power from there) along with battery-storage.

I pay a couple cents more than the standard rate for an all-renewable mix.

If local gas price matches $4.19, I'm getting the 195 miles at the same rate.

Let's pretend gas was double at $8.38 locally, and my electric rate is still 9.3 cents/kwh, then I would be getting double the miles at 390 mpge before I spend $8.38 in electricity.
well gas is $7.399 near me....how do you like that one....its killing people because they just dont have the budget for it....we need to open up drilling and make it easy for companies to start back up

Open up what drilling, how?

The time between starting an oil lease and actually extracting oil is about ten years. But... Oil companies are who do the drilling, and they're sitting on thousand of oil leases representing millions of acres.

They're whining that their loans got expensive and they weren't getting the right kickbacks while they made profits in 2021 higher than the difference between the losses in 2020 and the profits in 2019. They made it all back and then some.

aren't there permits already given out? I thought the oil companies are just sitting on them...so if they get up off their butts and drill....make it similar to the mandate for vaccines.....drill or be fined or taxed

It takes a great while to find workers after everyone was laid off due to extreme fear and lockdowns during covid-19.

Theres no shortage of already plumbed wells, just need to turn on some more pumps. Oil is heavily regulated and all states must agree on production levels through production quotas. This is just a period of price gauging through fear. Its not like Ukraine is a oil state with huge production. (unlike Iraq)

The big choke-point is Russia not Ukraine. Some countries are refusing to buy Russian oil right now, or limiting how much they buy.

Regardless, the rest of OPEC could increase supply to make up for the 10% drop in Russian supply, they just have no incentive to.

Oil prices will likely stay high well into the summer.

It’s likely they won’t stay high for too long or drift much higher though. They are starting to realize there is competition out there.

I don't think it will take that long unless China makes its move as well. Then we're in deep .... as both sides get more entrenched.

Here's the updated numbers from today, Tessie is awesome for this, btw. Works out to about $0.058 per mile in the mY compared to $0.37 per mile in the truck, not including oil changes and fluids.

As for the reception, I've been to over 100 customer sites and only one person gave me guff, everyone else seems to love it and can't get over just how much I can fit in the trunk.

Is this the wine industry where your partner thought you needed a truck to... something or another? If so, I feel validated because I said they would love it. Either way, glad to hear it's working for you.

.....

The one person that gave you guff, was the guff because he thinks a supplier is getting paid too much if supplier can buy expensive vehicle or was the guff because your vehicle was an EV not ICE?
