At mostly steady speed (65-75mph), no stops (highway only), highway grade surface ( smooth asphalt/concrete), and mostly level ground ( only minor elevation change and offsetting in both direction), low wind, then even significant extra weight difference will not overcome what might be huge possible aerodynamic drag difference.....
For example which one of these two vehicles weighs more?

Guess which one uses less fuel? Which one costs less?
Why do you think I own the later and not the former?

The 2020 Ford Transit has much lower ground clearance (5.6") vs 2020 Ford Expedition (9.8"). Transit might have much less under-body drag.
The 2020 Ford Transit has much narrower and smaller diameter tires (235/65R16) vs 2020 Ford Expedition (P275/65R18 and common option of 20" wheel).
Ford Expedition probably has much larger wheel well areas due to much longer suspension travel and larger range of tire diameters.
With Teslas models, changing to larger tires have shorter range.

The Transit hood starts lower, slopes up more quickly so that the hood to windshield joint is smoother. The front of the Expedition is more like two offset bricks. The Transit might have larger front facing area but the less vertical angle of the front may result in lower cD.

65+ differences that could in total account for why larger heavier vehicle Ford Transit van might get better highway mileage than slightly smaller lighter Ford Expedition.
