The upper frame between the pillars houses the side-impact curtain airbags,

If you install handles here, ensure they’re made of something soft. And don’t mount them with screws.

They have been in almost every car I've ever been in, and when I see them I always think, how much does that cost? Cause I've never used them once.
One time I was staying at my Aunts house and she drove me to the station in the morning on the way to work, and she had her work shirt hanging from it so it wouldn't get creased wearing it in the car.
That's the only use case I have ever witnessed for them.
I wouldn't miss them.
But my Aunt would.

Some folks with mobility issues use them. I know after my lumbar and cervical fusion surgeries, the ones in the wife Jeep were pretty handy.

While there are benefits to JC handles, they also present a risk in crashes. Tesla is all about safety, hence no fixed/protruding JC handles on the A pillar.

YES: Disabled and elderly people and passengers absolutely need grab handles above ALL doors. Please show some respect. Thank you…

Spring loaded grab handles can easily be designed to lay flat against the mounting surface...

My wife uses it every time she gets in the F150 and it is a must have for her. I use it too but I could learn to live without it.

I like to use the ones above the door on my wife’s car. I sometimes reach above the door and grab the roof on my M3 — Black. It’s no fun when the sun has been shining on the roof in summer!

Used them all the time in our Raptor (A pillar handles). The Rivian doesn’t have them and it sucks. The wear on the seat bolster is noticeable already after 6.5k miles. I’m 6’2 if that matters.

The Silverado I drive at work has the handles down low on the A-Pillar, presumably below the air bags (?). I've gotten real used to standing on the running board and holding the handle to pendulum my weight into the seat without dragging my butt across the seat side bolster (causing unsightly wear/tear) It's not as nice as having one across the top, but does assist in entry/exit.

I hope Tesla will have a solution. My Dad hated that my Model 3 didn't have any handles, it just made getting in/out much more difficult for limited mobility folks. He hated having to rely on my to give him a hand out all the time, but was nearly impossible for him without. (He was a proud man who hated to ask his kids for help)

RIP Dad! ❤

I have seen flexible ‘soft’ handles made from 550/survival cord with leather or nylon wrapped around as the handle and those seemed to work fine.

Not sure yet, I didn't notice the lack of door handles in the UTC San Diego display. I was way to overwhelmed just being in the presence of the Ct to notice!
