Why not just a Tesla Wall Charger?

https://shop.tesla.com/product/universal-wall-connector?sku=1734411-02-E

This can't charge any faster. Costs more money. Looks lame.

I have one that has been outside for 7 years now. I buy them for friends as Christmas ?. So I visit them more. Think I have bought 8 now.
I was going to get a Gen3 charger until I read the installation instructions. Unlike the prior Gen2 charger, it looks like the Gen3 requires installation by a Tesla partner. You have to use the Tesla One app that only approved installers have credentials to access. I hope I am wrong because it means I will never buy another Tesla charger but if I am right this is a good reason to go with another brand.

You are wrong. You are looking at the commercial one. Chill bro. Just a qualified electrician will do. They will help you find one, but you can use your own.

48A vs 80A

Wouldn't CT take the extra amperage and charge faster? Forgive my newbness if home charging is limited to 48A regardless and the "fast charging" is only available through the much larger 250/350 public networks.

Am I missing something?

Newbie is correct. Cannot charge at home faster than 48A. Truck can't take more. Feel free to buy it so you can't use it. AC charging home slow. DC charging not home fast.

Weird that it can take more than 48A at Supercharger/CCS though.

Anyone know why that is?

The charger is already in the truck, it converts AC to DC for the battery.

This is just a fancy outlet. It shouldn't be called a 'charger' it's at best a 'charging point' or EVSE.

Because that is DC fast charging. You don't have that at home. Two different things. As @Crissa mentioned above.

Your car converts the AC from home to DC.
A supercharger bypasses that with full on DC .

That is no better. Thanks for confirming my fears.

(for the record, I have nothing against "qualified electricians" They provide a good service to many people. I am against requiring homeowners to use them)

Well I did mine myself. It is dangerous stuff. Needs to be done right. So know the current code or call a pro.
So you were able to log into the Tesla One app to configure it? How did you get an authorized account?

Not sure why you feel the need to answer this guy if you’re just going to be condescending. Keep that out of this forum.
