Which works better when your home internet is out?😂
Typically the power is also out when the internet is. Don't really have situations when the reverse is true in our experience. In which case... kinda screwed since I don't carry house keys anymore HAHA

Yes, I have it setup and it works great! I'm running TeslaMate and have that interfaced with HA via MQTT. Then I setup HA automations based on geolocation of the truck and other attributes (shifting from reverse to park, unplugging the charge cable, etc).
A how-to guide please. It could be brief, high-level steps. TIA

Assuming you've already setup Home Assistant and can already control your garage door / gate through it.

  1. Setup TeslaMate: https://docs.teslamate.org/docs/installation/docker
    • This could run on the same box as Home Assistant; I'm running it on a separate box
  2. Setup the TeslaMate Home Assistant integration: https://docs.teslamate.org/docs/integrations/home_assistant
  3. Setup automations in Home Assistant to open/close gate based on Cybertruck states
    • When I unplug the charger and I'm at home, open the gate:
      • YAML:
        alias: Open gate when Cybertruck is unplugged
        trigger:
          - platform: state
            entity_id:
              - binary_sensor.tesla_plugged_in
            from: "on"
            to: "off"
        condition:
          - condition: state
            entity_id: device_tracker.cybertruck_location
            state: home
        action:
          - service: cover.open_cover
            metadata: {}
            data: {}
            target:
              entity_id: cover.gate
        mode: single
    • When I leave, close the gate
      • YAML:
        alias: Close gate when Cybertruck leaves
        trigger:
          - platform: state
            entity_id:
              - device_tracker.cybertruck_location
            from: home
            to: not_home
        condition: []
        action:
          - service: cover.close_cover
            target:
              entity_id:
                - cover.gate
            data: {}
        mode: single
        initial_state: true
    • When I return home, open the gate
      • YAML:
        alias: Open gate if Cybertruck returns home
        trigger:
          - platform: state
            entity_id: device_tracker.cybertruck_location
            from: not_home
            to: home
        condition:
          - condition: not
            conditions:
              - condition: state
                entity_id: sensor.tesla_shift_state
                state: P
        action:
          - service: cover.open_cover
            entity_id: cover.gate
        initial_state: true
    • Close the gate after pulling into the driveway and parking
      • YAML:
        alias: Close gate after parking Cybertruck
        trigger:
          - platform: state
            entity_id:
              - sensor.tesla_shift_state
            from: R
            to: P
        condition:
          - condition: state
            entity_id: device_tracker.cybertruck_location
            state: home
        action:
          - service: cover.close_cover
            metadata: {}
            data: {}
            target:
              entity_id: cover.gate
        mode: single

No testy attitude intended, sorry if it came across that way. I was just trying to explain what is not a problem for some people, is a real problem for others that deal with non myQ capable equipment. I am going to get my CT delivered next week, but unfortunately will use my manual three button garage door opener which I have not had to use in any car for more than 25 years. It will work, but every time I have to open up my garage door I’ll be thinking bad things about Tesla, vice what I have thought when my MX or M3 auto opens my doors using homelink. That is so cool on the MC and M3, where now with the CT it will be daily reminder of how poorly Tesla considered how this will affect some avid Tesla adopters.

With homelink you don’t need the internet if power is out. My whole house generator 17kW covers power for the garage door and to charge the cars too.

I was being sarcastic.
I have Homelink myQ compatible, chamberlain, garage door openers that have built-in battery back ups.
Wi-Fi connected to the Internet, but not with cellular back ups.
I do occasionally lose Internet connectivity requiring the router to be reset…
My point is Homelink is more reliable without question. And of course it doesn’t have a subscription fee.
The fact that this is even up for discussion is really silly.

If the power goes out I'll plug in the truck as battery backup and I can open and close the garage as many times as I want as long as I stay in the garage! :cool:

M3P has homelink but I also have MyQ setup (non subscription, just use with Apple Home)...cant beat em join-em - so I'll give the full my q a try given it's the only option.

Homelink also works with most gated communities' gates. MyQ doesn't. This is so 2004.

Reviving this some. Yeah, this stinks. I'm going to have to pull out my clunker community remote to open our gate in the front, then drive home and at least myQ will open my garage door. But in that process have had to remove my door from the Alarm.com system so lost that functionality as well.

REALLY wish we could add a homelink module here.

I have been using my Wyze garage door controller with Google voice commands. I tried using Google assistant Geo location, but it was always way late. I would prefer homelink, but this works for now.
