Is this something I can walk in and do on the spot or do I initiate it when I get delivery pick-up time?
In Texas, you will need to pay in full several days before the scheduled delivery. Either overnight them a cashier's check or pay via Tesla app/Plaid.

There is no option to pay upon delivery. And yes this means you're paying in full for a car you have never seen in person :)

From my past 7 experiences, I used Plaid. You will be prompted to pay for the vehicle prior to delivery. I've usually paid the day of delivery after inspecting the vehicle. Once you do the visual inspection of the vehicle and are happy. Select the pay button in the app and you'll be prompted to choose payment method (Plaid) then just follow the steps. You'll need to link Plaid to your bank account prior to all of this just so you can make the payment on the spot. That's it.

In my case for each transaction I removed Plaid (for peace of mind) from the Tesla app as its listed as a payment method and directly linked to your bank account.

Great info. I am in Texas so you're saying this is a work around to what @turns2stone
said about paying a few days before? I link up with Plaid a few days ahead and see the vehicle, then hit pay?
Texas is different than other places/states. You don’t get to see it ahead of time.

I’ve bought 3 Teslas in TX and am in the process of #4.

Fair enough. Sounds like I have to do it the way you're saing. Have you had any experience where the quality didn't live up? Can you do anything about it other than opening a ticket?
You can make notes upon delivery of anything that needs (relative) immediate attention. Every car will have something minor. Some people won't ever see/notice, the rest can be fixed by mobile service via Tesla tech.

Keep in mind, there are things you might notice on day 2 or 3 that you didn't notice upon pickup. Everything is just so 'new', it's OK to have a while to take your time away from the adrenaline of the initial pick-up to find any flaws.

It's kinda un-nerving for the first time buyer of a Tesla. If you're payin for the whole thing on line, you only talk to someone when you go to pick the vehicle up and then there is very little conversation. When I picked up my Y model, the only thing a Tesla person said to me was, "May I see your drivers license", then she handed me a packet and went on to the next customer. I stumbled on outside and eventually found my car, figured out how the key card worked then headed home. It was in August and I couldn't figure out how to turn on the AC till I was almost home.

Make sure to talk to tesla folks and let them know you want to do cash before delivery day, they didn’t expect that for me. The wire wasn’t quick enough and wouldn’t clear in time, they didn’t accept personal check. I had to do a loan application and then to pay it off right away. This was a total mess.

When you order it on the app, after deposit you get a to do list. As you go through the list it will ask for payment with options. I wired full amount from high yield account, then got pick up date.

I used the Plaid app linked to a HYSA. Was relatively painless. Nevada.

I would never show up drunk to pick up a new car! 🤪
