I wouldnt say its downhill.. unless your hill is measured by money. You're trying to do what makes you happy, not what offers the most money.Lol yep. If you look at my life objectively, youâd say itâs trending downhill. I was a commissioned officer in the military, took a pay cut to become a cop, now am trying to take another pay cut to become a security guard (if Tesla/SpaceX care to wake up their recruiting teams).
BUT each one I stand by as a good decision. You gotta do whatâs right for you. Money doesnât matter to me. What I do for humanity matters.
Thatâs how I see it. But yeah salary plus âprestigeâ if you will, goes down. Doesnât mean I havenât been significantly happier with each step.I wouldnt say its downhill.. unless your hill is measured by money. You're trying to do what makes you happy, not what offers the most money.
Sage stuff right thereI wouldnt say its downhill.. unless your hill is measured by money. You're trying to do what makes you happy, not what offers the most money.
Sure I can see there being less bragging rights if you're a security guard vs a military officer. But id rather be a happy security guard than a miserable officer. You've been there and done that, you dont have to prove shit to anyone other than yourself.Thatâs how I see it. But yeah salary plus âprestigeâ if you will, goes down. Don't feel bad. My âclientsâ generally hate me and my profession too.Sure I can see there being less bragging rights if you're a security guard vs a military officer. Do you know how many times a week I get told by patients "no offense, but I hate you and your profession". I'm like the feeling is mutual, so either we get this done or go let them fall out and eat mashed potatoes for the rest of your life. Your move.
I was unaware dentistry was so depressing. People hate me, sure, but for good reason. Why do people who choose to go to the dentist hate the dentist? If they dislike the experience so much, just donât go. Pretty simple. People canât exactly choose not to deal with me after making stupid decisions. They have a statistically rather high suicide rate. Sorry for the dark fact but itâs true. Iâve heard it postulated that itâs because dentists feel unpopular amongst clients.
Being popular amongst your clients isnât so great either when many of them are super shady people. Believe you me.
No picnic figuring out how to react when super scary people are very thankful to you..
Yes they are definitely up there on the suicide watch list and pretty miserable overall.. Honestly, I'm not sure why or maybe I'm just built different. It honestly doesn't bother me in the slightest when people tell me they hate me and overall, I love being a dentist and my job. I'm incredibly grateful and happy with my choice. If my kids have an event at their school, I lock the doors and go, I don't answer to anyone and when it's slow I sit in my office with coffee and Netflix - or on here to joke around with you guys. The one down side is its difficult to get away for extended periods for vacations, since it's just me, I have to find someone to cover emergencies.Dentists have notorious mental health problems I suspect in part because of this
I would certainly expect this to be true for you as well.. Ace they probably love - assuming they survive whatever he is fixing for them.Don't feel bad. My âclientsâ generally hate me and my profession too.
It is a very true fact. Yes it is because it is a pretty solitary profession, its just me and my staff, everyone tells you they hate you, they come in in pain so they can be nasty, etc...They have a statistically rather high suicide rate. Sorry for the dark fact but itâs true. Iâve heard it postulated that itâs because dentists feel unpopular amongst clients.

We are a necessary evil I suppose. Whenever I tell patients they need a crown, they tell me ohh you need to make your Porsche payment this month? My response is usually well it's not gonna pay for itself. They can choose to not come, but the piper is always due at some point and it's usually way more expensive down the line. Prevention is cheap, dentistry is expensive.I was unaware dentistry was so depressing. People hate me, sure, but for good reason. Why do people who choose to go to the dentist hate the dentist? Nothing wrong with triple-dipping! Or at least double-dipping and a 401K, not sure how SpaceX deals with retirement. The world is changing too fast for me to want to keep up with it all!Lol yep.
