I was bummed out to see a sea of cybertrucks in the Tesla lot south of Houston

Happy to hear that there are finally lots of cyber trucks sitting at dealerships around the country. I hope they’re not yet sold and I hope they sit there for a long time but, I don’t think the price will ever go down as low as I was offered 2 1/2 years ago. $39,900. I ordered 3 at that time. Now it almost cost three times that much for one. Sad 😞

If you can't afford it just say you can't afford it.

AND here I am anxiously waiting for my VIN in Canada....
This weekend, my Canadian friend, who lives north of Detroit/Windsor, said he saw a car hauler with 5 or 6 CTs on it... its worth the wait!

I was expecting that too but now it's the 3rd best selling EV.
And just think, when they open it up to all countries, a lot more sales!

Ah, there we go.
What do you mean by, “ah, there we go”? And, why do you think I can’t afford one? I drive an F150 and have for several years. Both the first one and the second one I bought, back in 2017 & 2018 were $12,000 off sticker. During Covid and until last summer, they were trying to sell them at sticker. Every dealer and every salesman told me that we would never see those kinds of discounts again. So, I decided to wait and see. I bought a 2023 last year, again for $12,000 off sticker. Trust me, the cybertruck will be discounted much lower than the current price. Maybe not at the original offering price, but much lower than today.

People are always talking about this with Tesla, I don’t believe they build them unless they have been ordered. They don’t hold inventory like traditional car manufacturers. If one is sitting unsold it is typically because a buyer backed out.

I did a second demo drive in mid November to see what FSD was like (loved it) and when returning the key card got talking to a sales guy. He asked me about my order and I said I was patiently awaiting (in an impatient manner) for my VIN to be assigned. He said he noticed a few CTs were in inventory in the area. SO we went through the process of letting him know what I had ordered and said there was one in Dublin (the closest delivery point to me) so I was getting VERY interested. Then.... oh, wait, it is a Foundation Series. So I said, I don't think I want to pay the extra 20K. He said Yeah, sorry about that. I said, well, let me plug in the number in my spreadsheet. Nope, I definitely don't want that high a payment. I will wait.
So IF you are still super impatient(and can afford it), go and buy a Foundation Series.
For me I got my VIN 2 days later and just picked it up 3 days ago. Woohoo!
I drove it enough the following day to get the cameras calibrated and am now using FSDS.
My version representing Full Self Driving Supervised. Still doing stuff as reported by other Youtubers, like hugging the left (sometimes), overshooting the posted speed limit (unable to bring it down using the scroll wheel, but discovered that taking it out of FSDS, dropping to the speed limit, then re-engaging FSDS seems to mostly work). I think it drives slightly better than I do (and of course I think I'm a good driver. Show me someone who doesn't). Anyway, like virtually everyone else with an opinion, I am absolutely loving the truck. After actually getting it, the 1832 day wait doesn't seem so significant anymore.

we have no worries about the cybertruck viability, popularity, excitement, utility, usability, etc
its an amazing vehicle, consistent build quality is spot on now, and if the EPA PoS tax credit ever kicks in, sales will explode even more, imagine like the old days shopping inventory for a M3/MY and being able to pick and choose? we are entering a time where we can inventory shop for a Cybertruck from those lots, its a good thing

btw, inventory in NY metro has been only showing zero for the CT, move those vehicles north please

They haven't made any that match that configuration yet.

They don't hold inventory like dealers, but... they don't not build vehicles without buyers, either. They build them in batches of a configuration, which means there's always some built that aren't matched up yet.

They have to order the parts long before they have buyers, anyhow.

Still bummed that I've not seen a Cybertruck here in the southeast of Houston in about 4 months. before that I'd only seen four. Yet I hear from friends around the country they are seeing lots of them out in the wild. There are more pickup trucks here than anywhere else in the world. I've heard comments like "it's the ugliest vehicle I've ever seen". It does take getting used to for sure, After spending time on this board and else where in my opinion sadly those box looking pickup trucks with short beds are ugly.

But you would feel better with a cookie cutter truck everyone has ?
No, I absolutely would not feel better with the cookie cutter box trucks. they look stupid now compared to the CT. I finally saw a CT yesterday on Bay Area Blvd near I-45, first one in a month.

No, it's not that at all, not that at all. You know, some people don't want to stick out like a sore thumb. Personally, I don't care if the vehicle I drive sticks out. If it's comfortable, is technically innovative, and safer I want it and dont want to wait years and years until it catches on with the masses.

It seems that I am not seeing many out on the road as I did a month or so back - at least in these parts anyway.
