I was bummed out to see a sea of cybertrucks in the Tesla lot south of Houston

A did a check of local Cybertruck inventory within 25 miles of my local SoCal area.

The Tesla website displays 97 Cybertruck's in inventory.

96 were 2024 models. 1 was a 2025 that qualified for the $7500 tax credit.

I noticed the vast majority of the trucks are demonstrators. 81 trucks to be exact.

That's Stellantis pricing for you. That truck is now worth $70K the second he drove off the lot.
My Honda dealer said the the rigerunners, top of the line, fully loaded was $52, 000 without TTL. Why would I ask? Just to compare cybertruck to other Trucks. I also asked what was other GM Ford trucks fully loaded luxury? He said around $70,000. As I say it's hard to know what they really cost. My friend that said he payed over $100,000 for his fully loaded luxury ram also had air ride suspension.
BTW, going into to town (Clear Lake in Texas) I did finally see a Cybertruck. But at least a fourth of trucks I saw looked like the late model fully loaded trucks

A survey was published yesterday of Cybertruck online inventory within 25 miles of the 25 largest US metro areas. The survey found a total of 1,246 CTs listed in those areas. Assuming a cost of $80k each, that total represents a retail value of about $100 million.

The survey findings seem generally consistent with your observations. The survey found particularly high numbers in California metro areas, including LA (95), Riverside-SB (85), SD (98), and SF (73). The survey also noted high numbers of 2024s and demos in inventory.

I've seen speculation that some of those "demos" could actually be customer returns. Don't know how you would check that, or if it really matters.

It'd be good for the CT cost to be same as a medium priced gas truck. Any idea how much a gas truck costs? Trying to determine the cost on line is impossible. My buddy got the 1/2 ton Ram fully equipped with all the luxury stuff. price was over $100,000.
I agree on all points. One data point, my dad is looking to replace his RAM rebel (shopping both EV trucks and another rebel). He said a pretty loaded rebel is over $70k msrp but he said he got a quote for around 65k with all the discounts available now.

The issue is that a 2025 CT costs $74k after credit, similar or less than many fully loaded pickups. A 2024 CT with current discounts is still far above that number. Given recent upgrades, recalls, the tax credit, and improvements in assembly, anyone buying a ‘24 would have to be crazy. Add in the political situation, Tesla is still $10k+ away from clearing CT inventory, maybe more. And the inventory is aging every day.

Very happy to have picked up my ‘25 last week. The delivery team in Delray Beach agreed with all of the above. Really sucks for people who bought a Foundation CT six months ago, now sitting on 50% loss, but it was predictable. I’m amazed at the aftermarket offers of used CTs for $85-95k. Dreamers abound, but what are they thinking? I literally just paid $74k for a new ‘25. These folks are at least $30k into fantasyland.

agree to some extent but for those of us not eligible for the tax credit in the traditional way (using the lease hack instead where the 2024 is eligible) the 2024s are a bit more attractive....$4,000 less than 2025 (although I agree it should be more)....I went with overall cost and saved the $4000 but it was a tough decision as trade in will likely be less than that.
